    Bill Me Later, anyone?

Just got my statement from BML after I learned about it on slickdeals.net. The upside was I got $25 off 2 GH guitars and GH 5 ($54 for the whole deal), but now that it's time to deal with BML, they want a bank account number. Had no idea. I thought I'd be paying them with my optional choices such as a PayPal balance or my Visa.

    Can they do this?

I'm pretty sure they cant. You may want to contact the BBB. But as a rule you should never give out your bank number to anyone, that is a big red flag.

They can't what? Ask for your bank no.? Use PP or a CC for payment? I've read up a bit more since I posted this and apparently there are class action suits etc.

Paypal does have my bank number, but I have rarely, rarely used that for a PayPal payment (typically b/c I didn't assign using my CC).

I've already decided there's no way they're getting my bank no.

That's not true. With direct debits many companies have access to your bank account # if you choose to go that route. Just off the top of my head the bills I have set up which required my account #:
        • House
        • Car
        • Gym
        • Cell Phone
The penalties for a company that comprise your account # are severe. The only thing I'd be worried about is hackers.

They most certainly can do this, in fact you should have read the terms beforehand that they only accept electronic payments via a checking or savings account or through the mail with a check (which will give them your account number anyway) or a money order.

So asking for a SS# is fine, but bank account info is out of the question?

If you pay by check, then they have your checking no. on the bottom, no?

This is the follow up letter they sent (or the body of it)....

Just send them a check from your bank's bill pay site. They most likely will just send them an electronic check. They don't want to get paid by credit card because of fees most likely.
