I coaxed her from her spot so I could get a good look at her... She appeared fine. Looked in the vomit and could see pieces of black material(I wear black work socks). Immediately ran into my computer/guitar room, as that's where I tend to disrobe. Sure enough, I had forgotten to grab my socks when I went to bed. Both socks had the heels and toes chewed out.
I was debating waiting it out for the day(letting her try and pass it) or going to the vet when she attempted to eat a little bit. Within ten minutes she sprayed it all out. That was all it took, I rushed her to the vet. Vet took the xrays and had a radiologist take a look at them. Sure enough, a blockage where the stomach meets the small intestines.
Sooooooo, off to the emergency vet I go.
Get there, they immediately take her in for their own x-rays to see if things have moved and whatnot. In the meantime, they tell me the surgery costs $2800, which I obviously don't have. So they tell me to apply for their credit card with a $3k limit.
I apply, and I promptly get denied(24 with NO credit history). I knew I would be). At that point, I broke down crying in the lobby. Here's my baby, and I can't afford to fix her, due to my own stupidity. My options are, take her home and watch her die slowly over the course of 3-4 days in excruciating pain, or pay to have her put to sleep and end the suffering.
Doctor comes back out and tells me that I have one other option; to let a non-board certified surgeon do the surgery as an emergency visit. It would cost about $800, due to the state giving kickbacks because students assist on those surgeries. So I call up some people and gather the money.
Long story short; that was one expensive *** sock. Total damage to my wallet? $2100. The visits, tests, overnight care, surgery, blah blah blah... Total of ~$2100.
She's home, and doing okay for now. In a ton of pain. In fact, if she goes more than 6 hours without pain meds she starts to go into shock. Her color fades, she starts shaking, and starts to foam at about 8.5 hours. I figured that out by accident(her scrip was for every 8 hours... Missed it by half an hour and she degraded fast). So now they tell me to give it every 6 as a precaution.
I'm not sure if pictures are allowed in this forum or not, so I won't post any as of yet. If a mod would kindly respond to this thread saying yay or nay on pictures, I would appreciate it.
I'd like to post: her, the xray, her incision, and she and I after the ordeal. All facebook hosted pictures, so they aren't big at all.
