I'm sure I could rip off the little kids that come to my door selling crap for school, but that money is probably going to have to be made up out of their (or their parents) pockets. I'm sure I could rip off most stores when an employee goes in the back room to check to see if somethings in stock, but I'd just feel bad. Hell, I always find myself correcting cashiers when they fail to ring up something in my order.

The way I see it, I owe that guy for his service at whatever price he charges me.
Agree 110%. Im not going to get too deep into this but imo, it shows someones character when you see no issues in taking advantage of someone to further yourself or get something for yourself.

Chef, trevytrev', imo, you guys are the exception not the rule.

Whatever you need to do to justify it I guess. Something tells me your not mathematically illiterate so that excuse wouldnt work. What if the guy had been going through a rough patch and wasnt thinking clearly or had other things on his mind at the time, does that suddenly make it alright? If the situation was reversed, wouldnt you appreciate it if someone informed you of an error you made and saved you money because of it?

I guess so, and to be perfectly honest, I think its sad that its considered the exception and not the rule.

I agree, though I think most of the people I try and associate myself would share the same standards, if that's the right term.

I'm not at all on big on carma, religion, etc. But I do believe that you treat others with respect and treat them the way you want to be treated.

I've had bad days where my mind is elsewhere I give a cashier the wrong amount of money (a 5 and a 10 instead of a 5 and a 1 or something) and I would hope that they would do the right thing and give me back my change insted of putting it into their pocket.

The same goes for lost goods. If I find a wallet or a purse, I try and find the owner. I don' think "jackpot!" I know the stress that comes with losing a wallet as I've done it a few times and it sucks for anyone to have to go through that mess.

I'm going to stereo type this tow truck driver and assume that he probably isn't educated and probably doesn't have a lot going for him. The last thing I'm going to want to do is take money out of his pocket that he earned and that I owe him. Sure an extra $25 would be nice in my pocket, but it'd just feel dirty to me.

Re: Some things you just can't make up.

Okay, well to be honest if the situation rose up I wouldn't really take the $25 from the guy. Heck, I don't think I would ever even test him like that either. I'm the kind of guy that lets people bum rides off him, then when they ask how much they owe me I say, "It's okay." I sometimes feel bad taking money from people, especially in fear that I'm overestimating the cost of something. I also do the same thing that Trevytrev11 does with a wallet.

I think I was mostly saying that no person should ever be incriminated for "thieving" this guy because he failed to make a proper calculation. If something like this ever went to court, I would love to be on the jury panel shaking my head the whole way through.
