<----heavy internet user
<----severe depression
So yeah, I can see it. It's kinda weird when I think about it, as we first got the internet right after I finished 5th grade, and that's when my issues started.Comment

Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
Correlation does not imply causation.
I'd fathom to guess that a person who is depressed is more likely to go to the internet or video games as a sort of escape, moreso than person uses internet in excess then becomes depressed.Comment

Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
The useage of internet doesn't make me depressed. It's when I have NOTHING to do, and I mean nothing, and I end up on the computer all day with nothing to even look at. You are just waiting for the night to get here and other people to become free.Comment

This is what I was getting at. If you ever go into internet chats you're likely to find them with lots of emos or people who don't have any friends.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
This is why I dont trust statistics. 7 of 10 people on the internet are depressed*(made up number), internet is causing depression. Forget the fact they were depressed before getting on to the internet, the internet is to blame.
Now I KNOW some people will get depressed using to much internet (I get depressed reading to much news: See thread about father waterboarding 4 yr old daughter) but I really do not think the internet would cause it. I would bet there are quite a few depressed people who will tell you they use the internet to help cope more than anything. There is a definite correlation, but not cause and effect IMHO.Last edited by sb24; 02-08-2010, 12:55 PM.Comment

Re: Heavy Internet use linked to depression
I don't like when I'm on the net too much because it means I'm bored and not being productive. My goal in life is to be busy enough on a day-to-day basis that I stop coming to OS altogether.
Today is a perfect example, work is very quiet for whatever reason and there's some non-urgent stuff I could be doing right now but instead I'm wasting away on OS."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
