I don't think so as it's not really political

...and to get the facts straight, yes Chavez does supply oil to British owned BP, but Citgo is a owned by the Venezuelan government, and most Venezuelan oil is produced for Citgo.

I use BP. But it's simply because they bought out all the Getty's in my area and it's the easiest station to get gas at. Not the closest but the Pride is always very busy and not worth the bother. I've always used this gas station and haven't noticed a difference after they switched from Getty to BP.

Venezuela actually sells us more oil than OPEC. It's really pointless to get into the politics of it. America drinks gas, more than we produce,I just try to get the most mileage I can. I do actually go for gas like Exxon/Mobil. Our local UDF store uses it. If I can't get that, I do Speedway. Both are regional. I used to do Sunoco. I have a Premium-Only ride, so I have to focus on mileage, as much as is possible.

Honestly, when it comes to gas, I'm not picky. I just buy whatever's closest. There's a BP right across the street from my apartment complex. I do buy Kroger brand gasoline sometimes. I don't hunt out specific brands nor do I go away from specific brands.

I didn't know you guys had Kroger's down there. I though that was more of a Ohio/ Indiana/ Kentucky kind of thing. Hmmm....

It's either Kroger or Food Lion in these parts.

                      **** Food Lion.

My family owns an exxon so I get gas for "free" there. I do know that alot of no name gas stations water down their loads so that's how they are able to sell at cheaper price points. Heck I've seen some stations selling at a lower price per gallon then we purchase from our supplier

I buy most of my gas at Giant Eagle's station after I buy groceries. That way I get 60 cents off a gallon.

ezekiel, yes, I forgot about Citgo...thank you for reminding me to avoid them as well. I just remembered BP because I used to buy my gas there every day before I found that out. And yes it's true that you can't really hurt them too much by choosing not to buy there but by the same token it sure as heck does help them if you do so I choose to vote with my wallet. No matter how miniscule. And it is miniscule because I drive a Saturn and spend very little on gas. I said before I don't think it's political because in my view everyone who is American should try to do what they can to help America, no matter how small of a gesture, it's got nothing to do with politics whatsoever IMO.

E-mails urge Americans to buy/not buy Citgo brand gasoline.

Neither a "buycott" nor a boycott was likely to accomplish much beyond the symbolic. In the first case, the Citgo brand (marketed by Citgo Petroleum Corporation, which has been owned by Petróleos de Venezuela,
the national oil company of Venezuela, since 1990) doesn't have nearly the capacity and presence in the U.S. to satisfy demand and wean American consumers from Middle Eastern oil supplies; in the second case, boycotting a gasoline brand over political issues is problematic for a number of reasons (not least of which is the notion that threatening not to buy gasoline from someone who is threatening not to sell it to you doesn't sound like an effective ploy for either side).

Many different oil companies buy crude oil from Venezuela, so even Americans who shun CITGO brand gasoline have no guarantee that they aren't still sending their money to that country. And although Citgo may be owned by Petróleos de Venezuela, it is a formerly American company which is still headquartered in the U.S. (in Houston, Texas), employs 4,000 people, and supplies 14,000 independent retailers with gasoline and other petroleum products — Americans with no substantive connection to Venezuela who would be economically harmed by such an action. (Citgo also provides free or discounted heating oil to low-income communities and tribal reservations within the United States.) And, of course, in a tight oil market Citgo could likely find alternative buyers for its products far more easily than the U.S. could make up the shortfall created by a cut-off of Venezuelan oil.
When it comes down to it, gas companies are using oil from places that can be viewed as un-American. That's a side effect of a global economy.

If you really want to be a patriot, go buy an electric car from an American manufacturer.

Like I said, i realize that there is no guarantee that i'm not still sending my money to a country that is vehemently anti-American, but if I go buy gas at Citgo or BP I am guaranteeing that I am.
