    Re: Sleep question...

Take it from one of the Kings of no sleep(okay...maybe the Princes....soldiers in combat are the Kings)....firemen....
They don't call us The Sleepless Knights for nothing
A nap is better than no sleep.
Back in the day...we would do 30-40 calls in a 24 hour period. A half hour nap was all we could get at a time sometimes...it blows...but staying up wasn't any better. After a while....you wind up just staying up and playing cards or whatever...but I always hit the couch and try and get another 20-30 minutes in.
    Never fear the nap!

Sorry, I know that doesn't answer your question.

I agree, when I was younger, if I ever went to sleep for 1-3 hours. I would be an actual zombie in the morning. But, when I sleep for a couple hours I'm able to make it through the day rather than being almost dead all day.

I know all too well about that. Over the summer I started staying up til 5 or 6am and sleeping until 2 or 3 pm most days. Now that I'm out of school again and can't find a job, I've gotten into that habbit again. There are times when I feel just absolutely terrible because I got too much sleep.

I take massively long naps often.

One of the things I've noticed is, regardless if I sleep at 5:30am and wake up at 10:30 or sleep at 12:30am and wake up at 10:30, I'll feel the same. I just can't stand waking up early in the day.

Maybe I'll have to get used to it over an extended period of time.

                Re: Sleep question...

I just had a night where I literally couldn't sleep. God it sucked. Laying in bed all night without being able to sleep.

What's worse than that, though, is getting a little sleep. For me, i've found i'm less tired during the day if I just don't sleep at all as opposed to getting an hour or 2. A little sleep makes me feel like death. I drag all day, it sucks. No sleep at all I can tolerate.

Though, the weird thing about yesterday when I didn't sleep at all was that my right eye really, really hurt all day. I was pretty sure I was getting Pink Eye or whatever. I slept last night, now it's all good.

Maybe a school project is due and I have to get it done so I don't sleep at all and go 24 hours or more without sleeping. Or maybe, like when I was in high school, I'm at a friends house on a Friday night and we end up staying up all night long, not getting any sleep until the next night. And then there's times where I've only gotten 2-4 hours of sleep for whatever reason. Well, for some reason, I feel WORSE when I get little sleep(2-4 hours) than I do when I get NO sleep at all. Why is that? How is that even possible? Am I just going crazy or is there really something to that?

This is just out of pure curiosity as I've always wondered why. It just seems as if I'm better off getting no sleep than I am taking an hour or two nap(obviously not on a daily basis, lol, just when you have something you have to do and you don't have time to sleep).
If you don't get sleep at night you will be most likely to not be tired the next morning. They say to get a good nights sleep, like 8 hours, but the thing is if you get longer than that you are too tired for the day. If you get about 2 hours you will most likely be more awake for the day, but you will be more weaker. At least it is like that for me. It is also not good to not get your sleep, it does **** with your brain too. So try to get a good nights sleep in every once in while.

Your best bet if you need to stay up all night is take 20 minute naps every few hours. Anything beyond and your body thinks its going into its sleep cycle.

Ah man, I think this thread is for me. Maybe someone can help me. For as long as I can remember I've been a night owl. And now it's gotten worse. It's 4am here and I'm not even a lil bit tired.

                        Here's my usual sleep cycle

                        Bed 6am
                        sleep till 1pm

Repeat again, sometimes I stay up the whole night and sleep all day. Why do I do this? I'm active, I work out, play ball,Work, but can't sleep normally. My PS3 has made the problem worse lol

                        Can anyone suggest something?

You're still getting your sleep at 7 hours a day. You might need to slowly get your body adjusted to sleeping in earlier.

It's not easy. What time do you wish you'd go to bed? Or better yet, what time would you rather wake up?

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I've always talked about how "I still get 8 or 9 hours of sleep" if I don't have school and can sleep from like 5:30am to 2:30pm or so, but is that a good thing? I mean, as long as I get the right amount, it doesnt necessarily matter "when" it comes aside from potential work/social/school reasons, right?

Yea I'm getting my sleep, I'd like to got to bed about 12 or 1, 2 at the very latest, and get up in the AM and get going. I just really need to ween myself into going to bed earlier, and get off this ridiculous pattern.
