Pain from back of ankle up through the back of the knee

    Calling all doctors....

I have a pain, when walking, that stretches from the back of my ankle(achillies sp?) through the back of my knee. Anyone experience anything similar to this? Curious if its something worth taking a trip to the doctor or if its something I could self remedy.

    Thanks in advance.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I'm no expert, but it just sounds like a calf strain. Just try icing it

Sounds very similar to the pain I've been feeling since twisting my ankle a few weeks ago. I went to a doctor yesterday to get it checked out, and turns out I tore a tendon in my right calf. (Not the achillies, but one of the many which feed into the achillies tendon). The pain feels like a dull, throbbing ache that is more noticeable when lying down than when standing or when walking. I also have some sensitivity on my right shin bone.

Did you happen to twist your ankle recently, or anything like that? If it just came out of nowhere, then chances are it's just a muscle cramp. (Those hurt like hell and the calf muscles tend to cramp up a lot). For now, I would suggest doing what I did when my leg first started hurting. Put some ice on the sore area and take some Ibuprofen to lessen the pain If this lasts for more than a week, that is when I would go and get it checked out via X-Ray or MRI. (As it could also be a broken fibula; the tiny bone that resides in the middle of your calf). The doctor will be able to see through x-rays if the bone is broken, and if it has been a few weeks since it first started, they can start narrowing it down to a soft tissue injury.

the only thing I've done is slip on some ice while walking down my deck steps to where my right leg(its the one that hurts) was extended and I landed on it. Since then, I've had this discomfort.

The pain isn't intense. Its dull and only happens when trying to walk. I can put pressure and weight on that leg, but its uncomfortable. If I'm sitting down, I'm good, unless I stir around.

If you have insurance, might as well get it checked out. A slip on ice can cause the muscle to get extended rapidly, and in doing so can cause slight tears to happen in the ligaments/tendons that attach everything. What you are describing sounds almost EXACTLY like what I've been feeling the past few weeks. The pain is a lot like when you do some working out and get that muscle soreness a few days later, right? That's what mine felt like. It hurt a lot when it was initially hurt, but that pain went away and the dull ache remained. It feels like my leg is constantly cramping up, but the muscle is quite tender and supple. If you go to a doctor to get it checked out, nothing bad can come out of it. They may be able to give you some medication to remove the discomfort and help you sleep better. (I finally went to the doctor after a few weeks because I just couldn't fall asleep and stay asleep. The pain was too annoying).

thats exactly how I'd describe the ache, its much like the burning/soreness you feel after a good workout.

Guess I'll have it checked out Monday. Thanks for the help jdurg.
