I did end up enjoying softball alot more though. It was fun coming to the games and joking around, not really giving a care how you did in the games.Comment

I'm an ex-baseball player who will not play softball. It just isn't for me. I made the switch to playing basketball, which I absolutely love.Comment

Re: Softball players
I too played college baseball and then made the switch to softball when I was about 23 or 24. I live in Cincy and softball is huge here, there are about 300 teams in the metro tourney every year. I played on a recreation team for about 2 or 3 years and ended up getting picked up by a really competive team that I played on for about 10 years. We played all over the country and played in "out of town" tourneys atleast twice a month.
We operated on a large budget, we where not paid but everything we did softball related was paid for. Hotels, meals, uni's, equipment was all paid for.
We won the City Metro 5 X's and placed in the top 3 of the A class in ASA 5 different years. It was something I look back on with found memorys and I met alot of freinds that I still have.
When my only child was born 3 years ago I hung up my spikes, I now only play co-ed on Friday nights. The only reason I play is my wife makes me, she too was a damn good player in her day too.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: Softball players
That's awesome man. Yea I've jus got started up with it. First season last year we won the state tournament and went on to play in nationals. This year we are lookin forward to going to disney world for the world championship if we qualify. Softball is a fun laid back sport that's jus as competive and full of energy as baseball. I could of went on and played baseball in a small D1 school in lousiana but decided to jus hang it up and start my softball career instead...Comment

Re: Softball players
I don't think I could deal with playing softball...every team I've seen has "softball guy" who treats the league like it's the World Series...
I'm all for being competitive, but for a rec league there should be limits IMO.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Softball players
Also a former college player, I picked up playing last year.
The way I see it, I pitched competitively for probably 18+ years and took every game/practice serious and as much as I loved it, I never truely was able to sit back and just have fun. I was pretty much always business out there.
Now I get to do exactly that. I show up 15 mintues before the game, run a little, stretch and throw a little and then go play SS and have a good time. I have a ton of energy out there and love running and diving all over the place.
Also, with pitching in college, I never got to bat, so I get do go up there and swing out of my shoes a few times a game.
Part of me misses pitching and going up against a team, but I don't miss the preperation. I also don't miss sitting around for three hours on cold night while getting pummeled 17-5. Softball's an hour or less.
As far as the "softball guys" we luckily weeded them out after our first two seasons...god I hate those guys. We had a guy calling out players on the other team by numbers when we were getting our butt kicked and then hit a bloop single and started mouthing off like he was the s-. He was gone after that season.Last edited by Trevytrev11; 02-17-2010, 05:24 PM.Comment

Re: Softball players
The thing I really like about softball compared to baseball is the game moves along at a much quicker pace, but the thing I really dislike about softball is the lack of strategy compared to baseball.
My Dad played fastpitch softball back from the 60's until the 80's and I would have really liked the chance to play it, but unfortunately it has completely died out in this part of the country. Fastpitch games seemed to move along at a brisk pace, but you still had plenty of strategy like baseball.- LETS GO RED SOX!!!
