Re: Two Burger King Employees Arrested...
That is just insane. The blue pill is known as Lortab which is 10mg of Hydrocodone and 325mg of Acetaminophen. A reported side effect of Hydrocodone, in very rare cases, are seizures. This can happen to anybody who is very sensitive to opiods, and apparently the unfortunate victim in this case was sensitive to opiod based pain relievers. (Which reall stinks for her since the most effective pain relievers are opiate based (morphine, codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, fentanyl, etc.) However, these are only used as pain relievers when the pain is not responding to safer, non-opiod relievers such as acetaminophen, acetylsalicylic acid, and ibuprofen.
I am currently on a prescription for 7.5/750 hydrocodone/acetaminophen. (Vicodin ES). This is for a torn right soleus tendon in my right calf which I suffered after a nasty fall. (Tried to prevent myself from falling completely down on my shin and possibly breaking my tibia, but in the act of trying to keep myself up the tendon ripped). I am only on this because I was taking 800mg ibuprofen multiple times a day for a good 2.5 weeks and was starting to feel pain in my stomach and no more relief in my leg. I can't even imagine slipping someone one of these pills. I have developed a tolerance to these things so that I get the pain relief, but don't get the lightheadedness, glassy-eyed "buzz" from it. (Something I'm thankfull for because when I first started the script if I took my two tabs I couldn't even think about driving into work until it began to wear off). But to give this to someone who 1, you don't know if they are sensitive to it, and 2, could get in a nasty car wreck if they drove after ingesting it, is just completely assinine. I hope these guys get the book thrown at them and spend a lot of time in lock-up.
Even more sad is that all the idiots and pill-poppers out there who abuse these drugs just to get "high" make it pretty damned difficult for those of us who may actually need it to get a script for it. I have had NASTY back spasms on and off over the past few years, and when they hit I just have to deal with the pain and hope it goes away because I don't want to go into the doctor's office every other month or so and make it seem like I'm a pill popper. It's the same thing with all the damned meth addicts out there who have gotten pseudoephedrine pretty much removed from the shelves. Sudafed has always been the absolute best sinus relief medication out there, but now if you have constant sinus problems like my father does, you are pretty much prevented from getting the constant supply of Sudafed that you need because if you buy too much you are thought of as a meth-head and reported to the DEA.
Sorry for going off topic here. It's just that issues like these really irk me. As someone who works in the pharmacuetical industry where new drugs are constantly being produced to help people relieve whatever condition is harming their well-being, I see many cases where a drug can have great benefits to those who need it, but will likely be abused by those who don't need it but whose lives are so empty and pathetic that they just want it to "get high".Comment
