Is working at a law firm considered work experience for business school?

I'm about to graduate in Spring and my buddy is tipping me on a position opening up at a law firm he works with to become a records clerk.

Would that position (salary based) be considered work experience for someone who wants to go to business school to get an MBA?

Not really. I have a few friends of mine who went to B school and all of them had either sales or corporate experience before they applied to school. Its good experience if you want to go to law school though.

Thanks Aaron. Definitely don't want to do law school anymore. So you think I should pass it up?

Depends if you need the job/money right now. I was thinking if there was a way you could spin that in order to make it look like a business job but I cant see it. Its a lot of filing and research not really a job that propels you to B school.

Work experience is work experience. And if you word it right, you can spin it as a business job. Since businesses do file papers and keep records ya know.

Well....here's the thing. I've worked and now help manage a Baskin-Robbins here while I've been going to school. I've been working @ Baskin for about six years now. I don't know if that works as business experience either but it might.

I would love to have the salary job @ a law firm and the money would be nice, but ultimately if I'm going to go to business school (and thats what I want to do right now), then I would rather just try to find a business-oriented job after I graduate.

They have a position to work in their bankruptcy division as a project assistant but it starts up in April/May and I cant do it while school is in session still.

If you are a manager ANYWHERE it relates to business school. Since it shows you know how operate a business. You got people working at Walmart and Target that go to business school.

Me personally I would take the job. The extra income can really be helpful to get yourself squared away as you enter business school. You know stuff like top of the line laptop, upgrade your car, pay down some debt, get some nice dress shirts, couple of suits, etc.

I've had the leader/manager "role" for about 4 years now. I wonder if that would be "enough".

Gotta figure all this stuff out, haha. Thanks for the help, guys.
