I have a dilemma (nothing serious)

So I have a little situation here at work. We have three people in my group at work. Back in January when our vacation calendar came around, I scheduled off tomorrow and Friday for the NCAA tournament. Not knowing back then when Baylor would play, I took both days off just to play it safe. I really just want to make sure I see Baylor's game, which is Thursday around 1:45 'ish. If they would have played the early game I would have just taking the whole day off, but since they play later that day, I was just going to leave at noon on Thursday.

Okay, here's where the problem comes in. They usually don't like more than one off us off at a time, because it's a huge workload for just one person. I came in Monday and one of my co-workers called a manager Saturday and said she had to go back home to Houston because of an emergency... she's been out all week. If I come in tomorrow for half a day, I'm sure they are not going to want to let me leave at noon because the other person will be short handed. I'm thinking about not coming in at all, like I was scheduled too. I would feel bad, but hearing others talk, she is down in Houston because her boyfriend and her broke up. So it's not an emergency and I'm thinking, she is probably down there partying with old friends because it's Spring Break in that area I believe and that's just the type of person she is.

So, what would you do? I kind of feel bad, but then again, she knew I was off and the other co-worker I don't really care for anyway. As she has told on me before about browsing the internet, when she does it all the time.

    I dunno too much!

I wouldn't report tomorrow if I were you. You're scheduled to be off. I could see if you cared about the worker that's left, but you don't LOL. Then she snitched on you for being on OS? Please. Go enjoy the Bears man!

She told on you for being on the internet at work? haha

Just because of that I would not go for the day and enjoy the game

Would you have to call out? Would you be doing a favor by coming in on a day you have off or are they trying to force you to cover?

I have off, I wouldn't have to call in. My boss knows, she has it on her calendar... now maybe she forgot, because she forgets all the time, but that's on her. I just feel a little bad about putting someone else out like that. I would be doing them a favor if I come in.

Let me say this... I don't mind taking half a day tomorrow and leaving at noon, but my fear is, if I tell my boss that I would do this, they are going to want me to stay the whole day. She is a BIG B and I know how she is. I would exlain to her, hey I had off, but I'm willing to take come in half a day to help out, but me thinks it won't work out that way. If I take off tomorrow like I am scheduled, then there is really nothing to do.

I say continue with your day off. If it was something urgent like Medical Professional, I would say go back into work.

Ok I would not go in. Giggas said it best. If you do want to try to go in, tell your manager that you could come in until 12 but you have an appointment after that you cannot miss. Something along those lines.

My boss called me into her office just now and brought up the two days I have scheduled off. She asked if I still needed them. I told her, I really need all day tomorrow and I could come in Friday. I said, if I need to, I can do half a day tomorrow (which is what I wanted to do in the first place) so she said to check in tomorrow morning and if my co-worker is here, go ahead and don't come in. If not, I can just leave at noon. So it all worked out.

Make up something about how you have tickets to see something with your daughter in the afternoon (if you do a half day) so it's blatantly obvious that you HAVE to leave (or the tickets are wasted and your daughter will cry). No one wants to make a little girl cry.

Ask if your coworker has a doctor's note.

I would go in half a day on Thursday and then take the rest of the week off.

I would have taken the whole day off. I have gotten caught having to work a whole shift on my day off when I was doing Sam's Club a favor to work a half shift b/ somebody call out.

It's nice to have 13 personal/sick days in my back pocket now.
