Bit Defender released a patch this morning that basically caused bit defenders to scan EVERY system file and other files as viruses and quarantined them. Basically making blue screens, black screen and unworking systems for 100,000 of people.
I am one of those people. My system currently has around 500 system files still quarantined. I manged to do a system restore point in safe mode to get the system back up and running. But I can't restore the quarantined files because it is saying the already exists. Basically it would force me to go through my windows explorer and find each and everyone of the duplicates files and erase them so the correct quarantined file can be restored. This would take hours and hours.
Basically right now around 500 dll. system files are in quarantined. They can't be restored because it is saying they exist. But the existing file it is saying is there is 0KB. So it is just a name basically, nothing in the tag.
Bit defender is coming under heavy heavy fire right now. You are talking 100 of thousands of people, business, and thousands of man hours to repair this gigantic screw up.
I am going to have to zero out my hard drive and reinstall eveything most likely. That would be faster than trying to locate all duplicated 0 KB dll's.
I have had many viruses and done my share of removing them and fixing their destruction. I have never seen a virus do as much damage as this ANTI-VIRUS program has done. Needless to say they pretty much have shot themselves not in the foot but the head. Because you have thousands of people who won't be using bit defender any longer. Me included, I will be going to Kaspersky.
Anyone else affected by this?
The virus it is labeling everything as is trojan.FakeAlert 5.
