I notice this happens a lot here and I'm sort of wondering what you all do when encountered with a textbook sized response to something you've said.

If someone responds to one of your posts with an essay...
Do you read it, skim it, or skip it?

Re: If someone responds to one of your posts with an essay...
It would depend on who posted it and the substance wouldn't it? You should have a pretty good idea what it's about if it's a response to your post. I think it would be quicker to read it than to start a thread about it lol -
Re: If someone responds to one of your posts with an essay...
Depends on what I said/what thread I'm in. If I'm in a 'heated' debate, I'll read it. If I'm in a thread that I don't care about much, just decided to respond and give my 2 cents, and someone responds with a wall of text, typically I'll just skim through it. I don't think I've ever ignored it though.Indianapolis Colts

Depends on it. If it's talking about how you can improve an aspect of a game, and it's not trolling, i'll read it. If it's a rant about curling or mascot mashup, i'll just skip it.My Teams:
NCAA FB-Oregon Ducks
NCAA BB-Gonzaga Bulldogs
NBA-Portland Trail Blazers
NFL-Carolina Panthers
MLB-San Francisco Giants
NHL-Los Angeles Kings
Won't change this signature until Oregon wins a national championship (started 3/10/10)

Re: If someone responds to one of your posts with an essay...
It depends on how the person wrote it. If its just one big essay with no paragraphs I won't attempt to read it. Or if it is in all caps or the person didn't put in any periods or capital letters I won't waste my time.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

I can be guilty of being a paragraph writer. But I don't really care for sound bites and quips. I actually enjoy that a person takes the time to express themselves to an extent that goes beyond a "McThought." Whether it's LBzrule breaking down the 3-4 D and how Madden doesn't have the fundimentals down, or even if it's someone's views on why Madden is stale or even the posts that skirt around politics or religion, I'm all for someone more fully expressing themselves. I'll wade through 4 pages of griping, ranting and "pee, fart and girls with big boobs" jokes to find something of substance.
I'm probably in the minority. But that's what I've always loved about OS, and really have started to miss. A deep love of gaming by guys who know gaming, and some really good discussions that actually have and can lead to making good games. And even the discussions outside of gaming that make you go, "hmmmm..." If I wanted rudeness and simplicity, I could go to the company sponsored boards.... So, if you take the time to write it, I'll always read it!Note to Tiburon Marketing:

I read most of the time. Hell, sometimes i'm guilty of writing long arse posts especially in the movie thread when reviewing what i've watched. So I might as well read what others are saying.
While I don't agree with everything he says I enjoy reading through some of the stuff Shotgun Styles writes in the Pro Football forum. There are others out there that put a lot of thought into what they write and I think one should at least read a bit of what they say rather then just skipping it. Sometimes you'll find a nugget of information or a point of view you never thought about before.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

This. There are some posters on here who never capitalize letters that should be or use proper punctuation. I usually just skip posts like this.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions
NCAA: Oklahoma State Cowboys - Michigan Wolverines
NFL: Houston Texans
NBA: Houston Rockets
MLB: Houston Astros

I'll usually read it until i get to a really lame insult or until an obvious bias is shown and it's clear the responder can't argue the point logically or maturely. At that point i just skip it.
Seriously, if you're going to respond with an essay make it well thought out and dont bring out lame insults, it just kills whatever point you could've had.As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"Comment

Depends on subject, who's responding and how it's written. Proper English and grammar is definitely on the endangered species list--especially on message boards.Comment
