This was probably done by Chechen rebels and it seems they're trying to make a bold political statement by blowing up bombs underneath the building that houses the FSB (The Lubyanka - former Cheka/NKVD/KGB HQ) It'll be interesting how the Russians respond, they don't really dick around with this sort of stuff.

Not gonna happen, ever. I don't know how much you know about Russian History or Culture but the Russian governments (Imperial, Soviet, Federal) do not undertake actions that make them look weak to their own populace or the international community at large. Plus the situation in the southern Caucasus Republics is so shaky due to lots of violence that encouraging one separatist movement is likely to start several more.

That was more or less my point on the rest of what you didn't highlight.

I'm decently versed on Russian history.

OK, I see your point now. You're right about the fact that if these rebels were smart they'd stop the major terrorist activity, as it gets them absolutely nowhere.

Terrorism does nothing, but hurt innocent people. It never changes anything. Russia will never stop fighting the Chechyan Rebels, so let's just kill innocent civilians for no reason, just to spite the Russian government. But these POS don't care, they killed hundreds of children in Beslin. Terrorism, God I hate it.

I'm suprised no attacks like this haven't started happening in America.

I agree, I'm surprised no one has tried what the Japanese had to go through in the early to mid 90s with sarin gas attacks in the subway. One thinks that should be pretty easy to pull off especially somewhere in the midwest.

Anyways as to the Chechen Rebels I can understand their plight but terrorism does nothing but make them look bad especially in these times when anything remotely tied to Terrorism will get stamped out ASAP. The only form of terrorism that led to a resolution beneficial to both sides was the IRA and England. It took the IRA something like 5 decades before they achieved anywhere close to what they wanted to.

Why anyone would ever want to terrorize Russia, I'll never know. I understand the fanaticism of the Chechnya people and their want of independence, but they should know very well that Russia will find those responsible.

I'd imagine we'll here something about Russian tanks blowing the crap out of a Chechen school to kill some terrorist pretty soon. That's usually how they roll.

It's actually kinda a weird, we were just talking about the Russian-Chechnya struggle today in class when the Professor went online and saw this story.

There's a huge difference between domestic and foreign terrorists. Russia has more or less domestic terrorists while most of our threats are foreign (with Oklahoma City being the major exception).

Domestic terrorists are much more knowledgeable and capable of pulling off truly terrorizing attacks on an individual level such as attacking schools and mass transit areas. Foreign terrorists have enough problems getting a person into the country now, let alone doing it to attack 30 people.

To a group like al-Qaeda, the only worthwhile attacks on US soil are large scale attacks against either New York or DC with distant second targets being Chicago and LA.
