Chechen terrorists are one step ahead of the Russians on the blowing up of schools.

This. That's why if you watch the news theres been so much talk about homegrown terrorist lately. Those group of men they caught last year in North Carolina, that father and son that went to Afghanistan and lately the "Jihad Janes".

Interestingly enough, I asked two of my Russian friends about this and one of them openly believes this wasn't Chechen rebels but the FSB that carried out the bombings.

Yes, but Russians are quickly catching up.

The simple fact here is that there will be a lot of senseless deaths because of a struggle for independence.

          Excellent point,

I was thinking more broadly though. I'm really starting to worry about the whole Tea Party thing and how it's been spreading. That much hate (legit or not I can not say) only serves to foster crazy notions and it's not too far a stretch to think that one of these people could go off the reservation and pull off some domestic terrorism.

No matter what your views are radicalism in any form is something to take note of and be wary of.

The Tea Party is not nearly radical enough to be terrorism or even potential to be terrorism.

And I'd like to thank SPTO for probably getting me carded for saying that. It's probably best we leave the politics out of this, eh?

If you get carded then i'm sorry. I was speaking in as broad a spectrum as possible.

              Anyways, agreed no more politics.

I was kidding, we didn't get into it deep enough to get carded.

I will say that there are a lot of organizations who I could see getting radical. And that comes from nearly every walk of life, from animal protection people to and sort of religious group. However, I think Americans as a whole are a lot more rational, tolerant people than some others. We'll never see anything close to an IRA vs UK or Chechnya vs Russia sort of thing.

The IRA/UK thing is different in that both sides the IRA and the Unionist Paramilitary groups agreed to drop the armed wings of their parties and come to the table. That however is not going to happen in Russia.

It was just an example. Clearly they have had some very tough times over there with some terrorist groups going both ways. I don't see any of that happening in the US anytime soon.

Not enough to do anything on a massive scale as seen with Chechnya, Ireland, or Israel.

Domestic terrorist organizations are pretty tough to exist in the US because of several reasons.

The biggest is that there isn't a single ideology that caused the hate. The three above have a geographic goal, while people who hate the US and want revolution come from the far left, right, religious groups, environmental groups, etc. Violent socialists aren't going to work with neo-Nazis who aren't going to work with ELF and so on.

Almost as big is that Palestine and Chechnya have sympathetic neighbors who will allow the terrorist groups to be trained and harbored in their state. Even if a terrorist organization had the man power and ideology, the FBI, ATF, and possibly NSA would be in their **** before they fired a shot and Canada and Mexico would cooperate fully with the US while many of the Middle Eastern states will actually let anti-Israel/Russia/US/etc forces operate as they please.

Yea these are right on point, our geographic location is such a strength. 9-11 took alot of planning, and alot of missed signs and missed opportunities for it to work as well as it did. We ere just caught off guard. And in all reality, it should have never happened, their were so many key opportunities to disrupt it.

Security plays a big part in it too, but I think like you said our location is so important, because Israel has some of the best security in the world, but their location is just impossible for safety.

The only thing close to an Israel/Ireland/Russia type situation I can see happening here soon is drug violence from Mexico spilling over the Southwest border.

Or terrorists coming over the border, Mexico is in such chaos right now, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if terrorists tried to harbor there, they can't even keep Drug Cartel's from running the country, I doubt they could sufficiently keep track of terrorists in their country, plotting to hit target's in the U.S. Of course we have border patrol, but we need to keep a real close eye on that region. It's a hot zone for terrorist activity in the future I believe.
