    Tips for faster Sprinting?

    does anyone have any drills or techniques to sprint faster?? I am a long distance runner and can run a pretty quick mile but that seems to hold me back in other sports. I don't get tired easily but i just can't run really quick so i was wondering how to be a faster sprinter

    I think that shaving all of your body hair off would help.

      Oh, and if you have access to a power runner machine, USE IT.

        Working out is only going to help you so much. Some of the fastest people Ive seen are tiny skinny little things that couldnt bench/squat 150lb.

        Best advice is to just practice. Run against the clock(40yd dash or 100m or something) and keep trying to lower your time. It might take a while, but you will get faster. Unless you run like a baby giraffe or something... in which case I'd say stick to the mile.

            The Only way to improve your Sprint is to...Sprint. Time yourself for each Sprint and try and beat that time. Try Sprinting Uphill too, its a smoker but you will see improvement, Thats How Jerry Rice got to fast.

              youtube is great for stuff like this. there are tons of exercises on there is you search that exactly. I've used some of them too. this type of training is the hardest to commit to and do consistently. You need the space and the motivation - you have to somehow make a routine out of it.

                ok I guess I will just keep doing sprints and hopefully that should help, but if I keep doing long distance will that hurt me?

                  Speed is god given. True enough if you get yourself in shape u can run faster, but I know people who have been WAY more dedicated to exercise than me, and I still dust them in a race.

                    yes I definitely agree with that, I was not genetically blessed with sports so I guess I always had a disadvantage and some things you can overcome, and some things you just can't, but I really want to try to get to the fastest of my ability

                      I would suggest challenging yourself. Just push yourself to your absolute limits. Use a stop watch and time yourself, and try to break your fastest time. A lot of it is mental. However, once u get past a certain age though, u might as well give up on trying to get faster. It's not so much that u lose speed, but injuries will force u not to go as hard, and thus, not take it as serious.

                        long distance runner = slow twitch muscle fiber

                        sprinter = fast twitch muscle fiber

                        you pretty much are stuck with one of the two not both

                          I ran a 4.38 40 and a 17:01 3 mile run....the sprinting came natural, the distance I had to train for
                          Golf: Bubba
                          MLB: Braves
                          Nascar: Smoke
                          NBA: Heat
                          NCAA: Florida & Miss State
                          NFL: Whichever team currently has the most of my favorite college players
                          NHL: Caps
                          Tennis: The Joker & Sloane Stevens

                            don't run long distance anymore

                            you need to get stronger
                            strengthen your glutes, hamstrings, low back and vmo (inner quad muscle)....stretch your hip flexors....work on your sprinting form
