Riding Mower Advice Needed

Now that we have a home I need to purchase a riding mower. I have no clue what brands are good. We have about an acre and half to mow. So I guess I don`t need huge mower. Any opinions and advice would be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

John Deere would be a good one from what I know. Or maybe a Cub Cadet.

I've got a Craftsman. It's the only one I've owned so I can't compare to other mowers, but it's worked perfectly for the 6 or 7 years I've owned it.

I bought one at Lowe's last year, a Troy-Bilt maybe? It's red, so it's not the Cub Cadet and not the John Deere. It has worked great for me. I did a fair amount of research and knew that I didn't need anything extravagant as my yard is only about an acre total. I liked the John Deere's they sold, but they were a little more than I wanted to pay, but they had some cool features. Mine has a cruise control (don't ever use it), forward and reverse (but doesn't mow in reverse) and it has a static pedal which means it works like a gas pedal in a car, you can control your speed by how hard you press it, which is not the case in all riding mowers.

To be honest, the reason I got a riding lawnmower was because it took me an hour and 1/2 mow my yard with a pushmower and it was taking away from my time on golf course. So I bought a riding mower and now I can knock the entire yard out in 45 mins. Plus it has lights on it, so I can play golf until an hour before dark, and then get home and mow and even if I have to finish it up at dusk, the lights hook me up. WIN-WIN.

Cub Cadet, John Deere, and Ariens are my personal favorites.

John Deere is what I have, but I got it from an authorized John Deere store. The quality of the ones the sell at Lowes/Home Depot are vastly different than the ones sold at "official" John Deere stores. I did a lot of research before I bought mine, and it seemed like John Deere and Cub Cadet were two of the top tier ones.

We have a Husqvarna.

My only recommendation is to get one with a gas pedal. Not sure what the official term is, but we have a John Deere at our lakehouse and to make it go you use a hand level and set the speed to 1-5 then use the break to slow down. It's a huge pain.

So get one where you control your speed with a foot pedal.

Zero turns are also bad A

I don't know where you get this from. Unless it's just an opinion you have formed based on things you have read.

There's no difference in the quality, but you will find different models at different stores. Every John Deere lawnmower in the Home Depot here is inspected by John Deere in-store before it's put out on the floor for sale.

I will say, John Deere has very little support for their customers who don't purchase through them directly. It's their way of subliminally punishing the customer for not paying the extra cash to get it from them. If you were to go to Home Depot/Lowe's to try to find additional parts for your lawnmower, you're out of luck.. unless it's something simple like an oil filter or a gas cap.

When it comes from Home Depot / Lowe's, etc.. it's the same lawn mower. They come in through receiving/freight on a truck on pallets, and someone from John Deere installs everything that comes with it.

With all that said, I'd suggest an Ariens. In all my time working outside garden and the service desk, I've never ever ever ever had to send an Ariens back for repair for anything... I've sent back Cub Cadets and John Deere.. but never an Ariens.

There's also a similar model with an engine made by Kohler that has a 4" larger deck on it for a little bit more. They are both hydrostatic. The coolest thing about the one that is $100 more is the cruise control .

The price is going to vary a little, depending on where you buy it at. If you buy it from Home Depot, you're guaranteed free blade replacement for life. At 35-40 bucks a pop.. that's a pretty sweet deal. I don't know if it applies at other retailers or not. I'm not saying you have to buy it from there, because it's worth checking around to other possible retailers.

I'm not trying to sway your' opinion one way or another, but if I was going to buy a riding lawnmower, it's definitely the brand I would go with.

Make sure you trick it out ya know throw in some nitrous tanks nice big engine in the front some speakers and a little Puerto Rican flag on the back to signify your from the hood esse lol
