    Moving to Portland

It's time for our yearly "I'm moving to Portland and would love some advice" thread.

I'm moving there in about a month, and I'd love to hear any neighborhood advice or other tips you guys have to offer. I'm particularly interested in hearing about the Nob Hill, Alberta, and Sellwood areas.

    I will be renting.

What prompted the move Z? New job? Change of scenery?
Cameras or guns, one of them is gonna shoot me to death.

      Re: Moving to Portland

Good question. I'm starting a business and looking for something of a new beginning. I really like Portland's vibe. Very hip, entrepreneurial kind of town. I visited for a few days last month and I felt like I fit in there.

Yes sir, Portland seems like my type of place as well. I wish I could move back but have all of my friends and family come along with me.

        I simply love it there.

I hope you enjoy your stay.

Hawthorne is the place I would choose to live. Not exactly sure if that's descriptive enough, but the vibe there is off the charts. So homey and that area makes me feel alive.

Thanks, man. I neglected to mention them in the original post, but I've heard really cool things about Hawthorne and Mississippi/Boise as well.

Been to Portland countless times, great place.

Bikers are everywhere, and that's really annoying. But other than that, it's a great place. The Downtown is nice. East Portland is really nice. Check out the Rose Quarter when you get the chance. Portland's got a nice vibe, to it, unlike Spokane, where I live, which is just a small college town, once I graduate i'm going to move to Portland.
              My Teams:
              NCAA FB-Oregon Ducks
              NCAA BB-Gonzaga Bulldogs
              NBA-Portland Trail Blazers
              NFL-Carolina Panthers
              MLB-San Francisco Giants
              NHL-Los Angeles Kings
Won't change this signature until Oregon wins a national championship (started 3/10/10)

I've only been to Portland once, and thats what would piss me off so much.

Love day tripping up to Portland for the day. Lots of cool bars and interesting places to explore. My aunt live on Burnside and loves it. The area she lives (rents) feels like the suburbs, but is minutes from the river and the Rose Quarter. Also, a trip down to Eugene is a must...

                        That's cool, Z. Enjoy it.

Maybe once you're there you can start a thread about retiring from OS.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer
