    Re: Sleep

I have horrible sleeping habits. I hardly sleep on weekends because I'm usually out. I have classes tuesday an thursday from 8am till noon so i wake up at 6.30am on those days. Even tho I know I have class those days I still don't fall asleep till 2 or 3am. I'm always tired during class because of it. I just can't fall asleep until im totally tired or bored. I wish I could sleep longer, I'm thinking about popping a tylenol pm every night but then I'm scared I won't wake up on time lol.

      Re: Sleep

I have found 7 hours works the best for me. Although I strive for 8. But on the weekend I usually do more just because I enjoy sleep, usually about 9 or 10.

I'm with z Revis, I don't understand people that can function on less than 7 hours. If I do that i'm like a zombie all day and my intellect just doesn't function right.

        Re: Sleep

Oh btw - for anyone trying to lose weight or be "healthy" it's pretty critical you get 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. It should be the easiest thing you can do to take care of yourself but a lot of folks don't think about sleep being part of a healthy lifestyle (it is)..nor part of weight loss (it really is!!)

          Re: Sleep

I'm closer to the 5-7 range.

I don't sleep all that much.. I'll stay up late a lot of nights, then refuse to sleep my entire day away the next day...

A lot of it has to do with my work schedule.

              Re: Sleep

I always feel tired in the morning no matter how much sleep I get, but usually 6-6.5 hours is when I feel the best. I do like to sleep in on the weekends, but with an 8 month old that's not easy to do.

                Re: Sleep

5-7 hours on weekdays, 7-9 on weekends. There's not enough time in the day to get more for me.

Weekdays I lay down in bed at 11pm. I'm up at 5:30am to work out for 45 minutes and then shower and off to work. I'm in the office a little past 7am and work until 6-7pm most nights. Then dinner once I get home and whatever else I have to do around the house. Rinse, repeat...

Weekends I go to bed whenever. Usually not much later than 1am. I wake up around 8-9am. I can't sleep any longer than that....I start getting restless in bed and have to do something. Most Saturday's when I'm not on call, I go golfing around 9-10am anyway.

                  Re: Sleep

Everything I've ever read says to get about 8 hours per night. Which is what I get a night. I was very conscious of my sleep times when I was working overnight, though my co-workers all said they'd get off at 7 AM and stay up until mid-afternoon. That's just not healthy and it affects everything you do.

Maybe lack of sleep is why we have so many mistakes and accidents. People need to treat their bodies better, but that's living in a dream world.

Yes, I meant to do that.

You're still very young. Wait till you get older and are up early every morning for work...and I realize I'm not the norm when I work 7am-6-7pm, but still. Your body will adjust and you'll get used to it. Plus like I mentioned above, there just isn't enough hours in the day to get everything done sleeping 10+ hours IMO (or at least for me there isn't).

I don't have any kids yet, but it's even worse after that from what I've been told. 5 hours is a lot. Baby's up all night, but work still comes calling the next morning.

Sleeping has sorta become my hobby over the last few years. I used to get about 6 hours in my 20's. Now in my mid 30's I get 8-9 during the week mostly cause of a busy work schedule. On the weekend I work half days so I get my 8-9 before work come home eat lunch and pass out for another 4 hours...I guess I love sleeping now.

I wake up tired, but I'm usually ok after a shower and breakfast. I'd like to get more sleep, but working full time, commuting an hour each day, and spending time with the wife and baby, I need a couple of hours to myself before going to sleep. I'd rather give up an hour or two of sleep than cut anything else out of the day. Besides, I'm used to getting up for work now, so it's not that bad only getting 5-6 hours of sleep.

You guys who say you have other things to do that are more important than sleep need to do some research about how cutting out sleep can adversely affect your health and cause you do die much younger. If you really think cutting out sleep in favor of other activities is the answer ask yourself if you're prepared to give up years of your life for whatever it is you're doing instead of sleeping.

Seriously, reading this thread makes it pretty apparent a lot of you have no idea just what not getting enough sleep does to your body..

I have an idea of how unhealthy a lack of sleep is, but it also varies between people. If I want to keep moving up the corporate ladder and living the type of life I want to live and still workout every morning and still spend time with my family and still play a video game or relax now and then and still do the weekly house chores like cutting the grass, washing cars etc....then somethings gotta give. Don't forget that what's good for one person doesn't always work for another mainly due to genes IMO. My father is the same as me and is a very healthy 67 years old. His father is the same and is 91 right now. Heck, my grandmother is 90 and hasn't slept much in many years (ie: she sleeps about 5 hours a night)...yet she's doing very well. Some people just don't need as much sleep as others...although sleeping 3-4 hours a night probably isn't good. I think 6-7 is plenty for some people. It's odd but even if I try to sleep longer on weekends (let's say 10+ hours), I wind up laying in bed staring at the ceiling after 7-8 hours of sleep usually thinking about all the things I want to get done. My body just doesn't function that way anymore...

Hey, we all die someday. I'm just trying to enjoy the time I do have here. Plus, any of us could drop dead tomorrow regardless of the amount of sleep we get. You can sit around and worry about every little thing in life, or spend time enjoying it before it's gone.
