Does anybody besides me HATE asking for favors?

I can't think of a thing I dislike more than asking people for favors. I was invited to a little get-together back at home during the summer and my transportation may not be adequate, so I'll probably have to ask for a ride. I hate asking people for rides and I'd almost rather not go. I've been going at myself for hours trying to figure out how to remedy the situation.

Ironically, I don't mind doing favors for other people at all.

Add me, I get it from my Grandfather, but like you Ruff I'll go out of my way to help others. It's a bone of contention between my wife and I because she has no problem asking somebody to go out of there way to help but I like to be as self sufficient as possible, plus some people act like you owe them the world because they do you a favor.

Re: Does anybody besides me HATE asking for favors?

I'm pretty much the same way and have pretty much always been. My dad told me a few years ago that it stuck out to him that while growing up, he never recalls me asking him for money. I always had a job or found things to do around the house to earn money. And as many times as he's offered it up when I may have been struggling a little bit here or there in college or fresh out, I've always declined.

I've always been a person that hates to impose on or disrupt another person. If I think there is a chance I can do something myself, I usually do it or at least try.

I spent three straight weekends at my father in-laws house helping him on some projects, but two weeks later when I had some stuff to do around mine, he had to force himself over to help, because I wouldn't ask for it.

The only exception I have is lifting heavy stuff and I always call over my neighbor as we both have called on one another several times for assistance in unloading some furniture, etc.

BTW, if you ever WANT to be asked for favors...make sure you own a pickup. You are guaranteed to be asked about once every other month or so to help someone: pick up lumber from the lumber yard, pick up or drop off some appliance or piece of furniture, or the absolute worst - help someone move.

I've always been taught, ask and you shall receive.

I guess that's why I'm in sales. I don't mind asking questions, nor do I feel bad for asking for something when I'm in need. Nothing wrong with asking for a helping hand, especially if it's from a friend.

Yeah, I never ask favors, unless it's an absolute emergency.

I don't mind doing most favors. In fact, a dude in my econ class right now asked for a favor, but I couldn't do it.

Feel the exact same way. I'm self sufficient, I shouldn't have to ask others for favors. (I'm not knocking anyone for asking favors btw that's just me) And too, like you, I don't mind at all doing favors for anyone that asks. Drives my wife nuts that I do everything for everyone else but never ask in return.

For me, I don't think it's the fact that I feel I'm self-sufficient, I just feel guilty having people go out of their way for me. Today in fact, I have to take my car into the shop, but I'm sitting here right now afraid to call my friend and ask if he could give me a ride back to my house.

The worst thing about asking for favors people feel comfortable asking you for favors.

I did that over Thanksgiving break. Instead of asking someone for a ride, I just walked about 3 miles home. Had to walk to go pick it up on my birthday too. Heh.

I feel the same. It's awkward asking and it's even more awkward if you get rejected.

I guess it just depends on how close you are with the people you were getting a ride with. If you are good friends with them then it probably wouldn't be that big of a deal. If you were more like acquaintances then, I would probably just rent a car before I asked.

Funny, because my plan now is to throw my bike in the trunk, drop off my car, then bike the five miles home instead of calling my friend.

As an added twist, my bike is AT the friends' house for whom I was originally going to ask the favor. So now I'm going to drive to my friends' house and instead of asking for a ride I'm going to pick up my bike, drive to the shop, drop off my car, and pedal back home.

I also hate asking for favors. I don't want anyone to think I'm a bum.

Along those same lines, I hate getting handouts. For example, there was cake one of the front office people brought from home and put it in the conference room. I like cake, but I wasn't going to get a slice. I feel akward doing that.
