Dos and Don'ts of car buying
I am going out searching for a used truck tomorrow. Any tips on what and what not to do so I don't get suckered? Gonna have my folks with me, but I have years of experience of talking them into doing things in my favor so I don't trust them with a salesmanTags: None -
Re: Dos and Don'ts of car buying
I just bought a caress than two weeks ago and I'll tell you no in with the mindset of no committments right off the bat. We went to one dealership and they tried to bully/browbeat us into buying a car. They brought in some guy who you basically couldn't say no to to talk to us. So we basically told him yes til they brought back in the other guy and we told him no thanks.
If you see something you like don't get too excited about it and never tell you need something "right now/today."Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Find a comparable vehicle to the one you want made by a car company they don't sell where you go. Tell them that you're considering that one as well. Price will come down in a hurry.Comment

Re: Dos and Don'ts of car buying
Focus on overall price, not monthly payment
They're going to pressure you to buy today and repeatedly say how they don't try to pressure people to buy today
Look over every inch of the car for flaws and if you find the car you want have them fix the flaws before you buy itComment

Yeah check EVERYTHING. From the heater, to the ac, wipers, etc. Check the miles on the car too.Comment

Re: Dos and Don'ts of car buying
since you're buying used low ball the **** out of the guy. If he's unwilling to compromise on price, you can probably find a similar truck somewhere else for a better price anyway.
And be ready for some bull****, too. One salesman even tried to pass the line "this car only had one owner, and it was an old woman" onto me like I was born yesterday. Did some research on the car and found out it most definitely had more than one owner.Lux y VeritasComment

I am going to a Saturn dealership to look at a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS they just got in and it's listed for $19,988. Hell if I can haggle that down to $18-$18,500 I'd probably be a happy man.Comment

Just curious... is there any particular reason you need a truck?Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Re: Dos and Don'ts of car buying
I would consider SUV, but the gas is just about the same.
---
I drove home a 2008 White Silverado 1500 LT. 16k miles. A little under $22,000 after TT&L. White wasn't my first choice, but for 16k miles and so cheap it's going to be hard to pass up. It's pre-owned, the the previous owner put on a different muffler, so it's a little bit louder to which I don't mind.
I haven't signed on the dotted line yet though. Saw another one online tonight that is gonna be about 4,000 cheaper, but it's red(attract cops) and is a bare bones work truck with a V6.
I think it's destiny though I get this one. I had to pick my friend up at the airport and just happened to stop by at a chevy dealership after spending 6 hours out at other places. Only problem we have found so far was the powerlocks didn't work :\ so luckily I didn't sign to buy it yet.

Re: Dos and Don'ts of car buying
Man I hate car shopping.
Saw this baby at the dealership yesterday. They would never tell us a straight price because it was at a Nissan Dealer. We thought it had to be a $25,000+ truck, I just happen to see it online today for 22,500. http://www.vehix.com/inventory-resul...InMiles%253D25
I think the gas mileage will turn me away. My bro has an 07 and it seems like it's an even worse gas guzzler. It's rated at 14/19, but it sure as heck doesn't seem like it.Comment

Re: Dos and Don'ts of car buying
Went with a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 Texas Edition. Leather interior. A 5.3L V8 with a feature that shuts off 4 of the cylinders when you are cruising on the highway. Got them to throw in a spray bed liner for free. 49,500 miles. Tow package, 20" rims. Certified Used so I got a 12,500 bumper to bumper warranty with the factory 100k auto train warranty. $23,186 after TT&L, fees, and other BS.
I liked the white, but white cars are so common so I figured I would be different. It also had a different muffler, so it was really loud when driving which I knew would have gotten old after the novelty of it had warn off.Comment
