Left speaker not working?

I just got back from vacation, and when I turned my computer on for the first time in a couple days, I was pleasantly surprised to find out my left speaker doesn't produce any audio. What gives? It was always working before this, as far as I remember. I've had this computer/setup for almost five years now with no problems.

LOL @ the response.

I had a weird thing like that happen to one of the speakers in my car. Then 2 days later it was magically working again, no idea why. Maybe you will have the same luck.

probably broken......that usually happens with pc speakers and happens way too often iwth headphones. I must go through a pair of headphones every 3 months.

Someone from OS snuck into your house and broke your left speaker by accident. We were meaning to tell you but were hoping you wouldn't make this thread.

But that's all I'm going to say. Good luck on figuring out who exactly did it. You can even have fun with it. Sort of like your own personal version of "Clue."

Guys, I know it can definitely be broken, but the reason I ASK is because there are hardware issues all the time that are fixable, and maybe this was one of them. Could be a driver issue, idunno.

I'm not naive. I built this computer from scratch so I was looking for some positive input.

Try unhooking/re-hooking up the cable to the computer. If that doesn't work, can you disconnect the wire from the speakers, or is it permanently attached (the one that connects the speakers to the computer)? It's usually that the thin little wiring has broken, not so much the speaker.

A serious question/help. Can you connect headphones to that jack and see if left and right both work there?

If it does, then it's the speakers somewhere. If it doesn't, then it's the sound card.

I highly doubt that it's a driver issue at this point, unless you were installing weird/buggy crap just now to cause it to break. Otherwise nothing has changed so I'd rule out some magical driver issue.

Usually PC speakers suck so if you had them last 5 years you're pretty lucky

It's an open Collector to Emitter in the Transistor Amplifier.
