I Have A Dilema- Work Related

Well here are the basics. I'm a Senior in college with one semester left til graduation. I live in Baltimore, Maryland.

I was given the opportunity to live Tampa, Florida for the summer with my friend who just moved in with his parents because he got a job down here. Now I have to go find a job just to pay for food and entertainment for myself, no rent or anything. Now my reasoning to come down here was to get out of Maryland for a while and experience new things while relaxing and having some fun.

Well heres the dilema, back at home I have my job and they know I'm away and it will always be there for me. Now at this job I make 13 an hour while working 3 days a week. I have gone to various locations out here in Tampa looking for job and most retail places are offering 7.50 an hour. I would have to work weeknights and weekends. I would have to work 6 days a week to make the same amount I was making in Maryland. My boy living down here works 8am-5pm Monday-Friday.

I can't decide rather to continue to go out and find a job working for less money and twice the days, but staying in a better area being around beaches and just out of Maryland, or just staying down here for a month and going back up in Mid-June and start working again.

I've been here for 3 days already and have gone out looking for jobs and just sight seeing, going to beaches and I've been bored as hell during the daytime, as I have no other friends besides my boy who just moved down here 2 weeks before me.

IMO, stay the month and move back if you don't find a job that pays something close to what you have in MD. Tampa isn't going anywhere.

Yeah go back to your job. Women are everywhere, so don't be lured by the bikini wearing women in florida.

You're so close to graduating, so I'd stick with the job that pays more. You can save up and go down there after you graduate with more money and freedom.

You aren't going to find a job in Tampa paying anywhere near $13 for the summer. The most you probably will find is about $10 and you will be working weekends and nights. The cst of living is lower, so salaries are also lower.

Exactly, I live in Tampa and especially without a degree (and even if you have one but it's not respected) good luck finding even ten an hour. I have been here for 19 years and havent touched that, even working in the same place for 5 years at one point. Your best bet would to be to look into call centers. Progressive, I know is a big hirer here and call centers are the only way you will find 10-15 an hour here. Also p rushing is right, the cost of living is pretty decent here, which drives wages down.

Outta curiosity, what part of tampa are you stayin in? Some ish to do: Busch Gardens is great fun, you can pay for one day and they give you a pass until Dec 31st. Adventure Island (a water park) has something similar. Ybor city is great as a cultural center during the day, then at night it is a huge club scene if you are into that. Several decent malls, and in North Tampa there are college parties and young people stuff by USF (also around the same area as the theme parks. Hopefully that helps some.... also there is tons to do in St Petersburg and Orlando, both reasonable driving distance.

Also, I would give it more than 3 days to decide....

I'm in Citrus Park area. I went to St.Petersburg Beach yesterday and it was a madhouse. It was like spring break all over again. Tomorrow I'm thinking ill be going to Clearwater beach.

Both are real nice. Personally I like the actual beach of clearwater better.... white sands and well... clear water.
