    Weightlifting?

Is anyone hear in to weightlifting and I know most users on OS are adults.

Well, Im a senior in highschool, and i play football. I started lifting my freshman year, i was about 5'8 250 and could not pump 135. I continued to give it my all and during my sophomore season, I was up to 225. My squat was 275, and my Power clean was 135. I grew to 5'10 staying the same weight, 250-255. Now im still 5'10 and about 280.

During my years of playing football, my maxes of bench press, squat, and power clean increased 100 pounds or more. Now my bench max is 320, squat in 475 and power clean is 275. I see all the men in the gym in the free weight section, i just wanted to know if you're one of those me.

    Re: Weightlifting?

I've been lifting consistently since 1996 and when I started I weighed 195 (due to wrestling) I now weight 260. When I started I could only bench about 185 if I was lucky. Now I can hit 315 for a set of 12 reps. My all time best max however is only 395 as I seperated my shoulder 8 times and no longer have a workout partner. I love lifting and usually get up at 5:30 every morning to lift. Squatting man I loved it. Back in the day I would hit a set of squats at 500 lbs for sets of 10 and we would then hit sled press with 1000 lbs plus my two partners man we would hit legs untill we threw up.

Now that I'm 31 and have suffered some injuries I hit a little less weight and do a little more cardio.
    Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

      6'5" 235 (as of 5-29-10)
      Benching 245
      Squatting 495
      Cleaning 215

I don't care what anybody says, long arms kill you on Bench and Clean.

I know what you mean man. My some of my teammates are about your size, and they struggle on bench and Power clean. But keep at it, hard work will get you anywhere.

315 for 12 reps! DANM!! I have the power to lift over 300. But my muscles dont have the endurance to pump out 10 or more reps. Any tips?

I've always been pretty athletic as far as quickness, jumping, agility, coordination, etc. but I never got to where I wanted to be strength-wise.

I started a consistent lifting regimen about 6 months ago and I've gotten pretty well-defined but still lack the bulk. Hoping to change that pretty soon. It's just tough for me to put on weight.

Agreed with Watson on the long arms thing. Benching is tough on my shoulders. Then again, Watson far outweighs me and my bench max would be about 190, so there's a bit of a difference there.

Lately i've been "cheating" and putting my pinky on the space where your pointer should go, and putting my thumb there, widing my grip and giving me less to go up.

But i've never tested that with maxing out.

Just started seriously lifting this summer. I'm graduating high school next weekend, so consider me a noob. I'm 5'7", around 158 lbs. Just getting the hang of it, but I'm doing the powerlifting exercises. I'm on Rippetoe's program. Just power cleaned for the first time today, had my buddy show me it, and it felt good.

As far as the weight, you must not be eating enough. You may or may not be a hard gainer, but seriously, you're not eating enough.

I'm in the gym lifting six days a week, and four of those days I work out twice a day (one workout is cardio, the other is weights).

On average I'd say I spend a good 12-15 hrs a week working out.

I workout at school for football.

During winter season we would do a heavy workout and run 4 days a week. During the spring we would do a little more intense heavy workout on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and do a short 10 excessive circuit 3 times and run on Tuesday and Thursday, and we would also run on Fridays.

Since schools been out we have a more relaxed easier workout only 3 days a week with sets of 10 because we're busy with football camps and people going on vacations. Our summer workout program begins in a couple weeks and continues until football starts. It's a 4 days a week 6-8 with an hour of a heavy workout and an hour of running.

I'm 6'4'' 215 right now, and not that strong. I've gotten a lot stronger, but I'm definitely of the tall lanky type, so weight lifting isn't exactly my specialty, but it's enough so that I can definitely get it done on the field in mid tier high school football. Most people can outlift me on most of my lifts, but I seem to be able to handle many of these people on the field, but I will say that the improvements I've made in weightlifting since freshman year have helped me become a much better football player.
