Places of Interest in NYC?

Ill be going in August and thought I ask what places would be worth visiting. (Restaurants, Monuments, Stores, etc). I think we will be arround the Time Square and be going to an Yankees Game. Any suggestions would be great. Please note the Location of the place, lol.

if you like italian food ya can't go wrong with pretty much any place in little italy. if you want something along the lines of steak then try Keens chophouse as they have the best prime rib (in my mind) in NYC. vist St. Patrick's Cathedral also because the architecture is astounding. You could take a look at ground zero as well. despite the constant construction it has a feel to it that you must experience as an outsider. hopes that helps

South Street Seaport is a nice little place to visit.

They just re-opened Governor's Island to the public (place where the Statue of Liberty resides) It's renovated with lots of park space.

Empire State Building.

Macy's Herald Square

Madam Tussauds Wax Museum

The Village, SoHo, Little Italy and Chinatown are all waaaay more interesting that Times Square, Midtown, etc...

Lived there for years and rarely went north of 14th street...

Eventually I didn't have time to go there, but one of the places I had on my list was the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.

The Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island, not Governor's Island.

Sorry to hijack your thread CM, but I have a quick question to the OS NYCers on here:

How is the traffic coming up the Jersey Turnpike, crossing the GW into NY between....5pm-9pm on a Friday? Asking because I'm driving up there this week and wanted to know if traffic there was bad all day/night or just at certain times(rush hour)?

I want to go to NY and I wish the Towers were still there. I really wanted to see how high they were. I will try to make it there one day. It would be cool to see the Statute of Liberty.

It's hell. The Jersey Pike is typically hell 24 hours a day, but throw in the 5-9 p.m. timeslot at the end of the week? I hope you have a good book to read.

You're supposed to say "Oh yea, that's definitely a good time to go since it'll be late by time you there so traffic shouldn't be an issue. "
