Re: Discuss.
You don't push a cop, I'm sorry...they got physical with the police and that's what happens.
I'm sure the cop wishes he could have the punch back, but he was in the right. It just causes all this discussion and media exposure.
No matter what, if you get physical with a cop you get what's coming to you.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Discuss.
Yeah, don't put your hands on a cop. After that, all bets are off.
I don't envy the police, that's for sure. He's all alone out there with all these people surrounding them. I'd be scared if I were him, taking on two people (females, but still, they put up quite a struggle) with a group gathering that obviously aren't fans of the cop especially after he punched the one girl.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: Discuss.
By the letter of the law he did what was proper. In the spirit of the law that could have been handled in a much better way then throwing a punch. That said given the video and comments from the spectators overall he was remarkably professional.Comment

Re: Discuss.
The cop should have just dropped them to the ground and slapped the cuffs on. The cop showed great constraint having to deal with 2 idiots who thought they didn't have to listen to the cops. If they had just listened, nothing would have happened. The cop would have given them a warning to use the crosswalk, they didn't listen, then walked off, then got physical.
He should have just pulled out his gun and said get on the ground now. That isn't allowed, but it would end the stupidity of these 2.Last edited by p_rushing; 06-16-2010, 01:30 PM.Comment

Re: Discuss.
He probably shouldn't have thrown a punch, but she was attacking him. He has to defend himself. We'd probably be having this same discussion if he had tasered her.Comment

Re: Discuss.
Clearly he should be in a different line of work if he cant handle small females enough to detain them. Additionally, his punch hardly phased the other woman.
More seriously, there is too much stupidity all around here. From the woman to the cop. They needed to chill and he should not have to throw a punch in that situation.Return of the MackComment

No. That isn't by the letter of the law.
An officer cannot lay his hands on an individual, unless making an arrest or checking for weapons. His physical assault on the girl in brown was in violation of the law, and the girl in pink had every right to defend the girl in brown.Comment

When she pushed the cop she committed the crime of assaulting a police officer, thus the force used in an attempt to subdue her was justified as it was reasonably proportional to the force she used against him. Prior to that he had the right to arrest her after he witnessed her jaywalking, especially if as said she was ignoring his request for her to produce identification. So as such all of his actions were justified and proper.Comment
