    Re: OS Running Thread

I don't run in marathons or anything formal but I do run 3-5 times per week. It depends how I feel on given day but I run anywhere from 3-6 miles.

Other days I do interval training and will sprint for a minute, then jog for a minute, then sprint. I am trying to increase my time in intervals. Right now I can 15 good minutes of sprinting/jogging every other minute.

I think it's time I get new running shoes though. I've had a pair of Adidas running shoes (not sure of exact name) going on 2 years now. They are comfortbale but I feel like I'll get better perfomance out of a new pair.

Every 6 months in the Navy we do a physical readiness test (PRT) and we run 1.5 miles. The last one I did was in July and my time was 10:02. I'm trying to get it down to 9 minutes.

I'm a 3-4 time a week runner. Usual run is 4-5 miles plus a longer run on weekends. I'm doing the half marathon in Nashville in April.

I like running but I'm definitely not the kind of person that runs 100 miles a week or anything

It depends on my schedule but I try and get in 2 runs a week. I'll usually go 3-5 miles and try to keep an 8-9 minute pace. I could go faster, and have, on occasion, but I try and save that for when I run 5k races.

I have 2 pairs of shoes that I use; one are a pair of Nike Bowerman Series and I also have some New Balance 9000s. My dad (retired cop) works for his buddy at a running shoe store, so I haven't had to spend a dime on either pair

I'm slowly getting back into running. I have a love/hate relationship because it's so hard to put in the work, but once I do, I feel so much better. I stick to interval training - sprints and jogs. I only sprint for 30 seconds and run at a pretty good clip - I haven't been motivated to try interval training outdoors yet, so I'll run on the treadmill at the gym. I do my best to run 3x a week with weight training and basketball mixed in. I haven't run long distances in some time - I used to run 3 miles 5x a week back before college. But that's when I lived at the beach, had a ton of free time during the summer and had a hot running partner!

As far as shoes are concerned, I'm a big proponent of Vibram's 5-fingered shoes. I have the Sprints which work well for, you guessed it, sprinting. I also wear these at the gym when lifting. I want to try the Bikilas for long distance running, but I'm waiting for them to come out with their new 2011 styles. Supposedly they are going to release a shoe designed for cross-fit, so you'll have better support when making lateral cuts. I would think that shoe would be perfect for any type of athletic activity - except for long distance running. If I were to do a half or full marathon, I'd stick with the Bikilas.

I CANNOT run on a treadmill. I have kind of an awkward gait, where my feet angle outwards (my dad runs the same way), so I always feel like I'm going to hit the sides of the treadmill or fall off. I'd rather just go outdoors in my winter gear, or at the very least use the indoor track at the gym, although that can be a real pain when the bootcamp classes decide they are going to hog the track doing their weird side-step jump moves and whatnot.

I got in a nice 4-mile run yesterday, just before the weather is going to turn bitter cold here in CO. So, I'll probably be doing other things until the cold snap breaks.

My Nike + sensor apparently is on the fritz, too, as it did not work on my last run. I really love that thing as it's nice to track my progress. I guess I'll have to buy a new sensor if it continues to not respond.

I used to love the Nike+ Sensor, tracked my first 500 miles with it. It eventually goes to crap. My pace was a complete joke on that thing even after trying to calibrate it multiple times.

When I used to live in Tampa Florida I would do about 50 miles weekly. Here in West Virginia not so much. There is a big race in Tampa every February and try to run in the 15k they have. Personal best is about 57:30. Or if you're ever in Tampa check out Bayshore Boulevard. Re: OS Running Thread

I am starting to get back into running more for general health than for any specific race at this point but my eventual goal is to do a half marathon. At present i do three 5k's per week on the alternate days to my weight lifting. So far so good. I do get shin splints if i try to do too much so i'm slowly trying to up the distance while hopefully keeping injuries to a minimum.

I run in Asics too (can't remember the exact shoe name though).

That google maps pedometer thing is pretty cool for calculating run length's if you guys have never used it check it out: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/

I can't run on a treadmill, either but I think its mainly psychological. A few times my knees have locked up and slightly hyperextended and I almost fell. Its not a huge deal, since I don't have a treadmill or gym membership anyway, and prefer to run outside

I have heard of those 5 fingered shoes, interesting stuff. I thought the second I saw them though I would never get them though because they just look so odd and I don't find my heavy shoes too detrimental or anything to my running...13.5 oz...although they are broken at this point so I am getting some new ones http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

My old ones were iO Pearl Guide IIs, they were alright, don't really recommend them though because they only survived 1 and a half seasons of track and weren't the most comfortable for 3-5 mile runs.

I haven't ran since thursday...I am getting really lazy right now. I planned on running today, but that didn't happen, guess I will take a 5 hour energy and hopefully I end up going tomorrow.
