    Getting Fired!!

    Ok I've been at this work place for two years now and within the last three months three people have been fired.

    Three months ago, one of the Supervisors got fired for stealing. I'm not sure what she stole, but she definitely stole something and the police came to escort her out. Now it seems as if the Store managers knew she was doing it, but they let it go on enough for a case to build where they could fire her and sort of charge her.

    Now just three days ago, another Supervisor got fired, this guy stole $4,000 worth of electronics. Again, i think the Store managers knew, and let it continue to happen until they could build a big enough case to fire him and have him arrested.

    Now i'm only assuming the managers knew, i have no real proof that did they did, but the talk at work is that, thats the procedure the company uses when they find one of their employees stealing.

    I thought that once they suspected someone of stealing, they would confront that person and bring the issue out and give the person another chance or a final warning, but that is clearly not the case.

    Is this the way it usually works in most companies? When i talked to one of the other guys i work with, he said, Stealing from the company is the biggest crime a person can do, once you do that, it shows that you have no respect for the place of your employment and that you don't deserve another shot at all. I understand where hes coming from, but i still feel as if it would cost them less and would show more heart if they snipped the problem from the beginning.

    Any thoughts?

    That sounds like a couple experiences I've had at my place of work at a major electronics retailer with some higher ups. We go through managers like crazy. Its ridiculous.

      Do you work at Walmart ? sounds like walmart story LOL. But yeah that is how it usually goes. They know somebody steals, they just build up a case against that person, usually they just waiting for a better camera angle to catch that person in the act.

      Last time I worked in retail in a one summer and fall period............

      4 department managers got fired
      1 co manager got fired
      1 assistant manager got fired
      15 associates got fired

      2 of the 4 department managers were caught working over time, which is a huge no no at walmart

      Co manager was a weed addict and sleeping around with female staff to pay for his weed habit

      assistant manager got caught stealing from lock up and giving it to her husband

      3 associates were dealing drugs in store

      4 were caught stealing

      1 was over riding the price of iphone for $75, she did this 5 times

      6 were caught having sex & sexual acts either in the parking lot or empty aisle of the store with customers

      2 were just late all the time

        Had a problem with that when I was working at Merry-Go-Round waay back in the day. My other 1st Asst. was stealing all kinds of clothes. She ended up getting some serious charges. I think they knew after a while, and just wanted to see how far she would go. She got up into Grand Larceny territory. I think they do that on purpose, they know the person will be unable to stop, because they think they are smarter than the company. You never win, the house always does.....

          Reminds me of the time when this csm at target stole 10 $100 gift cards and bought her boyfriend a PS3, Madden and NBA 2K game with it.

            I've been worked somewhere where this has happened and the result has been the same. When I worked at Best Buy and we had some merchandise in our department disappear. At first it was just games that were in cases but then it ot upgraded into expensive software (Windows, Photoshop, etc) and then after a period of time the inventory # would balance out. This went on for about 2-3 months and nobody knew what was really going on until the guy got busted for it.

            Apparently, the Senior (a position like an Asst. Supervior) was taking games and software out of the cases and taking them out of the store to re-sell them and then doing returns on the empty items back into the store inventory. One of the managers figured out what was going on and realized he was the only person in our department who would know how to do that exactly (He moved into media from customer service where he did exchanges and returns) but they waited until they had solid evidence of him doing it, they put a cash register in our department and rigged it somehow that it would track everything he did on it and a camera on an end cap that had a view of everything that was going on. So when they busted him he couldn't say it only happened once or deny it, he got caught red handed.

                Companies need solid evidence to fire anyone now. If you fire someone, you have to pay for unemployment. So inorder to stop that, you have to have them quit or fire them with cause. If they find out they are stealing, they need to get evidence, then turn it over to the police, and then they don't have to pay for them sit in jail.

                  You'd think people would walk the straight and narrow to keep their jobs.

                  Guess the temptation is too great and they feel they can beat the system.

                    Yup. That's about it.

                    It doesn't help that usually the people working retail are making less than $9/hour, so they either a.) Aren't making enough to support their family/habits or b.) They feel they aren't making enough money for the work they do, so they start finding ways to make up for it.

                    I've seen many employees get escorted out by police for their stupid actions. Doesn't make sense.

                    I don't really understand why management would steal though. Usually they make decent money, and store shrink is always one of district manager's biggest things to yell about.

I'm sorry but when grown as people have to use this as a way to support a family first of all it ain't going to support a family second I can see a guy doing something stupid. I'm not condoning stealing at all but I have NO sympathy for these big companies. Outsourcing job after job overseas and expect Americans to have money to buy crap. Ridiculous.

                          Probably because they think out of everyone else they have the best chance of getting away with it most likely. This usually leads them to doing more complex things that regular employees wouldn't have proper access to do.
