      Right!

At my parent's house, I've never had a fear of the crawl space. Been in there about a handful of times, never had a problem. After reading this thread, I've got a new fear. Spiders and insects freak me the hell out. But if they're launching an attack on me, you better believe I'm coming at them right back full force. I sometimes think I should be an exterminator, because I go crazy on any unlucky bastard insect that steps out of line. It's a sight to behold, screaming and yelling like I just won the Super Bowl or something.

Re: Time to Man Up and Go Under My Crawl Space

My moms old house had a small crawlspace under the roof behind the wall of the finished attic that my mom was afraid to go in. Apparently there had been an opening in the roof that birds had gooten in at some point and they had built a nest though the rafter were covered by plastic so they couldn't get in the main part of the crawlspace. I went up there once to get stuff out for my mom. I just wore jeans and one of those cheap dust masks partly because I knew it would be very dirty and partly because I had a cold and breathing in all the dust definitely wouldn't help it. It was extremely dusty and hot, but I didn't notice any bugs.

Not sure if it was a camel cricket, but one year when my family was at the beach there was a large cricket in the house we were staying in. It was just sitting by the wall and my sister and cousins were kind of freaked by it. I just calmly walked over and stepped on it with my shoe, had to clean cricket guts off my shoe afterwards.

I would assume that the birds eat bugs...? Maybe it's good having them there?

My boss told us one time that he hardly got any sleep the previous night. He said that he woke up in the middle of the night hearing some animal falling through the chimney or something, and started crawling all over the place. He didn't want to deal with that in the moddle of the night so he went back to sleep, but could hardly get any sleep. I assume it's still up there... Forgot to ask him about it...

The birds were long gone and the hole fixed by the time I went up there.

Similar thing happend at my moms house. My sister and I were out of town visiting relatives when one night my mom awoke to something falling down the chimney leading to the fireplace in her bedroom. Fortunately that fireplace was nonfunctional and the flue closed off but she ended up putting her hamper in front of the fireplace just in case. She called someone the next day and the guy could see a clear tunnel through all the dust and cobwebs filling the chimney and guessed it was probably a raccoon that had since climbed back out. He put screens over both chimneys so it wouldn't happen again.

Ha when the home inspector went in the crawl space there was already a bug bomb...So I may take that advise and throw one in there the day before I go in.

How effective are the bug bombs?

It was interesting no doubt. We now live on the 35th floor overlooking Minneapolis. No crawl space.

lol..I'd call that 34 floors of crawl space.

That's interesting that you live on the 35th floor. How many rooms?

In my experience they're a very effective short-term solution, well worth the couple of bucks it'll cost you.

My house was built in the 1920's and it has a basement and a crawl space. The basement is large, but the crawl space spans the entire front of the house and all the way down one side, plus they added a crawl space under a back room that they built on at some point.

To get into my crawl space I have to stand on a step ladder and crawl through a hole that is barely big enough for me. I hate going under there, so I've only done it two or three times. On the plus side, I can hide any gift there with no worries of the little lady finding it.
