Thought this was EXTREMELY interesting and thought I'd throw it here for discussion.

They are doing this to stem the fights and online bickering that most believe the anonymity of the internet allows.

What do you think? What if OS followed suit?

And no, it's not planned. Just asking what your thoughts on 'net forums doing something like this.

Hm interesting, I don't know if i'd feel comfortable with the FULL name being out there. You still have crazies (especially on something like world or warcraft forums) that can easily take that information and use it for evil purposes. On the other hand using your real ID is most likely the easiest way to combat needless flame wars.

I like it, actually, LOVE the idea. People feel like they can say anything behind the guise of a username and therefore act out in manners in which they never would in real life. By doing something like this people are actually held ACCOUNTABLE **gasp** for the things they say and do.

I wouldn't mind this at all. It wouldn't stop me from signing up to a forum, or stop posting here if OS did decide to do this. My name is Jeremy Davis, pretty common and of no significance. I can understand if a guy had a name like Michael Jackson or Barry Manilow they might not like this idea.

I wouldn't like my anonymity taken from me, but OS doesn't have my name/credit card, so no worries.

Bad idea....too many unstable people on the net. I had a guy threaten my life on a Madden site. I called him out on strategy and next thing I know he's calling my work place, sending me threatening emails, talking about how he had a gun and knew how to use it, etc. I didn't even give out my name but he figured out who I was somehow. Giving the name directly is even worse as anyone just knows it without even having to look.

I don't care too much about for the forum since my username is a nickname based off my last name and there aren't too many "Cebby"s from Maryland who are Auburn fans.

That said, I wouldn't like the fact that the third or fourth thing showing up in a google search of my name would show that I have tens of thousands of posts on a message board.

It also seems that, especially in Blizzard's case given the amount of nerds, you could find yourself the victim of identity theft if someone disagrees with you.

Haven't had any problems, and if I did run into one I would just stop using whatever site it was.
