Blizzard has already said this will be opt-in, and they will give you fair warning before your name shows up on the forums.

That negates the whole thing then. Anyone with brains and who wants to save themsevles from possible craziness will opt out of such a scheme.

If you're a mature poster you shouldn't have a problem with having to use your real name on a site.

I'm not naive. The majority of the people that post on the internet like not having to reveal themselves because they can act "differently" with limited repercussions. There's a popular website I go to and in order to post a comment you have to use your real name and have it linked to your facebook or twitter account. And you know what the result is from this policy? There's almost no comments/discussion on the site.

If OS got rid of usernames and made you link your OS account to your Facebook or Twitter account, 95% of the users would disappear from the site and there would be a limited amount of threads. The discussion that would take place would be very mature (at least a lot more than it is now).

On a personal level this wouldn't bother me much since I'm literally 4 letters away from displaying my full name by choice anyway (and have been addressed by it on this board many times). I do worry that many people would stop posting, though.

If something like that did ever happen I would want to have the board be closed to guests though - you'd have to register to read the board, in other words. I know this particular forum is like that already, but I'm referring to the whole of OS.

My username is my first initial and my last name (which is a unique spelling). Based on my "research" there is only me and one other person in the country with the same name (likely to be related not so distantly) and I am fairly certain I have given my name here on many occasions....
