I think the conversations on here can be pretty easy going and adding names will only help people ease in their opinions in less erratic ways. Plus all those flamers will think twice before posting their comments, because I am a psycho and i git angerry reeeeeel fasssss! JK ;^)

What if I wanted to be a flamer? Using my very common real name wouldn't stop me. Google my name and you would come up with 100's of other people with my name, and I don't think I'm that important that someone would Google my name anyways.

I have a very uncommon last name so I wouldn't appreciate it being used in forums, especially because I wouldn't want my clients searching my name and finding that I have a hobby of playing sports games for years and years.

I have a lot of clients, and if I want to progress in the company and be something important I don't want things out on the internet that could 'haunt' me.

I kind of wish they hadn't gone back on this. Would have given me a reason to not support Blizzard and save my money on Starcraft 2

I still don't think they need to show RealID's on forums, but they should do something so people can't post under multiple characters, without showing someones log-in names.

2.) Names aren't unique and don't identify most people. I can google my name and come up with hundreds of people who aren't me. It's not going to stop most people from being jerks.

I just googled myself, and it took 2-3 pages before I found anything about me... so I'm not too worried about it either!

Nah, I wouldn't like it. As ODogg said, there are way too many people that are just flat out nuts on the internet. I work at a prison and I know the types of people that sometimes pollute society... I would not be comfortable at all with using my real name. I just choose to not be a doosh on the net, I always try to stay true to who I am. If I say something here in response to someone, you can bet I would say it to them in real life.

I think a tightly ran ship can combat a lot of problems. With the worst offenders, such as people just looking for fights and throwing out insults, perma bans are the best route to take. Most of us are adults and that's one thing I like about OS - respect seems to be something that is not lacking here.

While I'm glad they went back on this, I would like them to somehow be able to ban/suspend accounts (their game accounts) based on forum behavior. I really think this is all that's needed to control things. Imagine the change in some people's attitudes/behavior if their ability to play madden/ncaa online could be taken away or at the very least, suspended. If the threat was real, and it was enforced, I think the forums could be a lot better place to be. As it is, I, virtually never, visit a specific games forums because of the insanity that goes on at most of them.

I'm not cycling through 8 pages of this topic, so maybe this has been mentioned already...but I really wouldn't mind.

A.) There's plenty of people with my name in this world. In fact, there's one living within an hour of me. And since I'm not listed in any phone books, have my Facebook on private, etc...I'd assume it'd be difficult to really track me down unless I'm giving out personal information on a message board, which would be my own fault.

B.) With the way people treat message boards, I'd imagine it's not that hard to track someone down as is if they really want to. I see people on here with links to their Facebook and such. Not to mention people who have instant messagenger IDs and email addresses in their profile or signature that I'm pretty sure you can search for on Facebook. I keep bringing up Facebook because even if your profile is on private, you'll still usually get the person's full name...so same thing.

C.) At my last job, I saw thousands of customers of week and had my full name plastered on my nametag. So if any weirdo was going to come after me, I'd think they would be now.


That being said, I'd rather all message boards not go that route as I like the uniqueness of user names.
