I'm pretty sure that the entire company went under. It's a shame, too. I loved that place.

Re: 10 businesses in danger of closing in 2011
Yeah Movie Gallery, which was the parent company of Hollywood Video & Game Crazy completely went under. I didn't care for Game Crazy all that much because they were charging full price for games that was more then 8 months old and they RARELY had sales on new games.
I think in my whole life, I only bought maybe 3 or 4 games from them.Comment

Re: 10 businesses in danger of closing in 2011
It's not surprising that Blockbuster is going down. There are Redboxes EVERYWHERE. And anyways, who would want to rent a movie for 4$ or 5$ dollars when you could just rent one movie for a buck and return it the next day?Comment

None of these are too surprising...except BP? If it means lower gas prices though, I'm all for it.

Re: 10 businesses in danger of closing in 2011
What's really sad is that Blockbuster saw the digital media movement coming. They even partnered with Enron for a planned on demand broadband service like a decade ago.
They're just like many giant companies before them though. They didn't realize their model was outdated until it was too late, and someone comes along able to do their thing better. Even when they tried to take on Netflix, they offered an inferior service that tried to blend their dying brick and mortar locations with online rentals. They also had in store download rental kiosks, and partnered with Tivo. Too bad Tivo is a dying company with less than 3 million subscribers, while Netflix reaches tens of millions more homes just through the wii, ps3, and 360.Comment

Movie Gallery was founded in Alabama. They weren't northeastern. They may have been national, but if anything, they were southeastern.Twitter

Re: 10 businesses in danger of closing in 2011
I did the same exact thing. I went half in on a 2-out plan from gamefly with my cousin and have't looked back. I miss Hollywood though. Better game selection and cheap prices. I was there almost every week. Blockbuster is charging $10 a game rental now. Here's a little anecdote about Blockbuster.
I prefer renting games to buying ones that I'm sure to return and lose money on. So when my local Hollywood video closed, I found myself with one option. Blockbuster. I went in there, saw that they charge nine dollars for a five day rental, turned around, and don't plan on returning. Instead I went to Gamefly, who charge 16 dollars a month. That means, I can rent any combination of games (one at a time) for 30 days. That would cost $54 if I was using Blockbuster.
I can't think of anyone who would actually pay that much for a 5 day rental. As for movies, Netflix has them beat.
Like I said previously, I'm baffled as to how they are still alive.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: 10 businesses in danger of closing in 2011
TMOBILE is just a matter of time. Don't have the infrastructure to keep up with the new faster networks coming out on the big boys, don't have the income nor resources to expand their own.
They are living on borrowed time, their best bet is to hope one of the others buys them out.Comment
