Good luck starting with calculus and then learning algebra.Do you prefer to start on the basics and build to the large concept or start with a large concept and break it down until you get to the basics?
For ex doing a math backwards like starting with calc and breaking that down to algebra or the reverse.
Personally I prefer to start with a large theme and work backwards
I have to do stuff in order starting from basics, then getting to more advanced stuff. Normally once I get the basics the more complicated stuff is pretty easy for me. I'll use calculus for an example, it took me a little bit of time to learn derivatives, but once I got those down integrating even more complicated problems was pretty easy for me.WUSTLComment

Yeah...you have to do the whole "basics to advanced" thing. I mean hell, all Calculus is a step towards breaking down a complex problem into Algebra in the first place. Without the latter, there is no way in HELL you could solve the former.
I thought the topic was about whether you learn visually, audibly, reading/writing, or kinesthetically. If that's the case, then I'm visual all the way. Coming in contact with new information...I'd rather hear it (audio learner) But to study, I need to write it in my own terms (on note cards) and keep reading over my note cards.Yeah...you have to do the whole "basics to advanced" thing. I don't think in my 17 years of schooling that I ever pinpointed whether I learned visibly/audibly/whatever other way. Haha, I remember entering college and at one point thinking, "Ah, well the good news is maybe this means I won't have to sit through stupid people doing stupid power point presentations like high school. It's going to be a lot more sophisticated than that."
Wrong.
Somehow, someway, 98.7% of classmates' presentations I had to sit through in college were a form of Power Point where their entire report was listed page by page and the student would either stare at the screen and read everything verbatim or they'd state aloud some random fact like "43% of students surveyed didn't know what kind of learning they liked best" as they simultaneously clicked to a power point frame with a picture of a sunset and the words, "43% of students don't know what kind of learning they like best" swooshing in from the left side of the screen.Comment

I just end up memorizing a lot of things. It's not the best method and it doesn't prove that you actually have learned anything, but I was blessed with a very good memory. Why not take advantage of it? Quite often, if I do something or read about it once, it just sticks.New Jersey Devils- 1995, 2000, 2003
