Let's put it this way. Until this day I have never put on another pair roller skates since that injury. I'm a big chicken on that subject. I know alot people say face you fears. But I would like them to face a fear of breaking their ankle like the way I did. It wasn't fun at all. I had to spend my whole freaking summer in a cast. I couldn't even go swimming. That summer sucked so bad.

Broke my shoulder while mountain biking a few years back, slipped on a wet rock and hit a tree with my left shoulder.

Hospital of course failed to notice a broken collar bone and a fractured shoulder, just sent me home with a sling

after a couple of weeks an xray specialist called me to ask how I was doing since he had noticed something strange in the xrays.

Strange indeed, I hadn´t been able to lift a cup of coffee and couldn´t for the rest of the year.

I still have problems sleeping on my left side because the bones never mended properly...

The most fun part of the injury happened roughly a year after the accident: was showering and I noticed blood dripping from my shoulder!?!

A small part of a bone had not mended, and slowly had risen to the surface of the skin and finally broke it looked funny, a small sharp sliver of my collarbone...

I had some tough luck couple of summers back. It was our first day on holiday and I was playing soccer with my friends, I collided to one of my friends and sprained my left ankle. And it's not over. When it didn't hurt anymore, so that I could walk and run without any pain, I went and sprained the same ankle again. I also sprained my right ankle last summer.

I also think that I might have dislocated my shoulder when I was about 6. Atleast it hurt like hell and it really felt and looked like it's dislocated, I managed to push it back, and I didn't even tell that to anyone. Only now when I'm doing push ups it might feel like that it's going to dislocate again.

Oh and my friend's dad broke his both collarbone's at the same time when he was about 13.

When I was 6 or 7, I was having fun at the public swimming pool. I was chasing a friend around the pool. They always say jump toward the water for a reason. Well I didn't listen and forehead hit the bank at full speed--split wide open. My dad jumped in and kept me from drowning and rushed me to the hospital. Unfortunately I was conscious through all of this. Took about 20 stitches.

Besides that and brain cancer, never broken a bone.

p_rushing, that sucks, knee injuries are the worst, they just never seem to end.

I have a question for you guys about these injuries. Do you ever have like flashbacks to them? Like PTSD? I know it sounds kind of odd as most people think of PTSD in relation to soldiers coming back from war but anyone can have it. I've had a few instances where I lie down to go to sleep and as I'm lying in bed I instantly relive the moment when I dislocated my knee and I will start almost hyperventilating and I will instantly grab my knee. It doesn't happen as often as it used to when I was dislocating it a lot but still every so often it will. The only way I can stop the replay of my mind is to consciously think of something like very a beautiful woman or something that's more distracting than my knee popping out.

I was just wondering if any you guys who'd had some very gruesome tales had any of the same issues?

Oh and this thread makes me want to lock myself in a padded room in a full body suit, LOL.

Ha, my bad, looks like the key word was "rolled". For some reason I saw the repeated mention of "skates" and instantly thought ice skates even if they tend to do more sliding than rolling per se.

I've sprained my right ankle multiple times...The worst was when I slipped on black ice and felt a pop higher up in my leg (high ankle sprain). I could walk all night and it didn't hurt, but felt tight. Next morning I could barely walk on it. Took a while to get back to normal.

Ever since then that ankle is prone to sprain. Last summer I stepped on the side of my foot playing tennis and it was a nasty sprain. Lots of bruising, but somehow I could walk just fine. I just couldn't run or test the ankle cause it felt weak. It's ok now, but I have a serious brace for if I ever play soccer again.

I'm pretty sure if you sprain a joint it's never quite the same again.

I have had several injuries due to sports and weight lifting. Concussions have been one of my weak spots I have suffered 6 or 7 I suffered on during a championship match that I ended up losing 3-2 (wrestling) afterwards you just have a giant headache are in a fog and with that one I threw up. Also tore a ligament in my shoulder when I seperated it wrestling again.

If you end up spraining it again, I'd get it checked out. My mom had the same deal. She kept spraining one of her ankles while doing aerobics and running and stuff. It turned out that every time she thought she was spraining it, she was actually breaking it a little or something. I can't remember exactly, but I guess she was essentially shaving parts of her ankle bones every time she sprained it. She went to a specialist and had special shoe inserts developed. There was something wrong with her gait that made her prone to sprains, so the inserts correct that.

I used to be really prone to sprains myself. I sprained my ankle pretty bad in basketball in 9th grade. We were at practice--and I remember having a really good practice because I'm usually terrible, so I was happy to be doing well--and we were going over press break. I was playing at mid court on scout defense and the kid who got the inbounds pass launched the ball to half court to one of our big men. I went to jump to get the ball (I didn't), and when I came down, my foot hit off his leg, turning my foot sideways. I was coming down so quickly and was so close to the ground when it happened that my foot never got back to a normal position, and I basically landed on the side of my foot with all my weight after jumping as high as I possibly could. It hurt. I missed the next game, and I would have played a ton during the game because we won by like 50 points.

The last time I remember spraining it was during a flag football game freshman or sophomore year. I was running directly toward the sideline to grab a kid's flag, and I ran out of bounds and stepped on someone's gym bag. It wasn't too bad. I'm sure it would have been worse had I just rolled it in the grass instead of on a soft gym bag.

                      This one is bad...

When I was playing around with my sister by the bathroom on the way out I slid my hands on the door and my middle and my index finger got caught on the hinge side. She then shuts it...Locks it...My finger was on the hinge side for a good 8 seconds because she couldn't get the door open. I ended up losing my middle fingernail...My whole upper ligament was cracked right down the middle.
Honestly...The most painful thing in the world. It's those little things that really get you. I still experience numbness...and it's been more than a decade.

No broken bones so far, so knock on wood that I won't have to deal with that. My worst injury is something I've yet to get checked out. Playing football, got tackled, the tackler landed on my lower leg while my hips and upper leg were twisted in a different direction. I think it tore something in my knee. It's "popped" out of place a few times. It's an incredible pain and I have to slowly move my knee until it kind of cracks back into place. It's popped when I was backpedaling (playing defensive back) and pivoted, when I was getting out of bed, while I turned over in bed, when I was just throwing a tennis ball around, among other times. My balance is severely altered as I have to rely on my left leg. It's something I can live with for now, but I need to get it checked to see what the actual damage is and then get it fixed. Currently, unable to do that, and don't know when I'll able. I'm sure I'll miss work and be on crutches for a while, and I just can't do that now or in the foreseeable future. I just have to hope it doesn't get unbearable or cause long term damage.

Other then that, I split my chin on a half pipe at the skate park when I was 10. I got up after taking the spill and was like, "What?" as everyone rushed toward me. Once I saw the blood, I was like, "Oh ****." I didn't get stiches, though, just a butterfly. Have a nice scar there under my chin, but I wear a beard on my chin these days so it's hardly noticeable.

Well, I broke my humerus bone on a HB Pitch during a football game, and the re broke it because I played earlier than I was supposed to.

Sprained my right ankle twice during baseball (once in the outfield, and once running the bases) besides those nothing much besides a few broken fingers and toes.

I have tendinitis in my left knee but thats nowhere near painful.

My junior year in high school I dislocated my knee. This, as stated earlier, is quite painful. I tried to play later that year but could only get a few games in. My knee would not stay in place. Before my senior year I had two diagnosed concussions, and probably a few other that were never reported. Early in my senior year I had another concussion. This spelled the end of my playing career. I still have headaches and see a doctor for this condition. I probably should never have played, but being a 5' 10'' 225 pound offensive linemen I pushed through because this was my last chance to play great game of football.
