    In your computer.

Check Control Panel -> System (I think, it's been a while since I've used XP).

GIGGAS, since you're here. I know what a defrag does, but does that actually make your computer run noticibly faster? I run it once in awhile and don't really notice any benefits.

I don't really think it's worth much of anything unless you're opening a lot of files all of the time. Sure, it's nice to have all of your files in a contiguous block, but as long as you've got a nice HDD (read: one with a lot of RPM), defragging is probably not necessary. I imagine it was more necessary when we were running with megs of HDD space, instead of gigs.

I'm not exactly sure, but I've also never seen much of a benefit. Honestly, though, if I ever have any speed issues, I just throw hardware at the problem, and it generally goes away.

You're mixing two different measurements. I think what you're doing is giving me free space on your internal HDD and your external HDD?

If you've got 4 GB of RAM, you have to be running a 64-bit OS. Do you know if you're doing that?

Regardless, if you want your computer to be faster, you're going to want to up the RAM total (by installing a new stick or two). If you're running a 64-bit OS, you're free to do it. If you're not, you're going have to upgrade to a 64-bit OS, and then you can go over the 4GB threshold.

                Thank you ryan.

Have you thought of asking for a decent computer from Mr. Hankie?

                        That's basically it.

You've got to know what type of RAM you've got (DDR2 or DDR3, most likely), find a decent stick online (I go to Newegg), then buy it, and pop it into your computer.

That's because it is easy. One of my friends built a computer for the first time a few years ago, and if he could do it without my help, anybody can.

Yeah, there's not too much difficulty in building a computer anymore. I built my first computer about 3 months ago, and I just finished building one for my mom for Christmas. The one I built for myself is far more powerful, though... for my games, and what have you.
