$14 to see the Bobcats play the Warriors on Friday afternoon. It's perfect, the person I am hanging out with for New Year's Eve doesn't get off until around the time the game ends.

First game I will get to see this year, and its a promotional game. Cant wait!

Sole proprietor's have to pay ~40% of their earnings in taxes?

So if I make $10,000 I pay $4,000 in taxes? I fail to see how I am in any way inclined to pay 40% of what I earn to the government.

Not trying to get political, but I mean the self employment tax is ridiculous. Once again, this has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with me being pissed at this ridiculousness.

I'm just not going to do any type of secondary employment anymore. I am disgusted.

Until you reach 97,500 I think (that's what it was when I took tax a couple semesters ago, probably changed since then), then the social security portion drops off.

Sigh. Work commitments plus the fact that the game is moved to 3:15 is causing me to not go to the Packers/Bears game with my dad at Lambeau.

I have two new employees starting on Monday, so I can't take the day off. If I go to the game, I won't get back to Duluth until around 2 or 3 AM and I have to be awake and alert at work by 8. I'm sure he won't have a problem finding someone to replace me since a playoff spot is on the line.

Since you're self-employed, you pay the employee portion and the employer portion of Social Security and Medicare tax. It's the same as if you worked for a company, but since you work for yourself, you are the employer and the employee. Altogehter between income tax and the FICA taxes, yes, it's around 40%.

Many people probably don't realize that the employer matches the FICA taxes that you pay.

We actually have it good compared to a lot of places.

Mafia II is pretty awesome though. I picked it up yesterday for $40 on Boxing Day.

Speaking of games, yay for blowing a 10 point 4th quarter lead against #3 Iowa (now #1) in my Michigan dynasty. I did somewhat redeem myself by beating #16 Penn State on their field 24-7, getting me into the Top 25 with a 6-2 record. I missed you NCAA 11.
