Feels SO good knowing that I won't have to see a single Cowboys Flag flying around in the DC Area for the rest of the year.

Java isn't hard either. It's also OOP, so it's just the syntax you're learning. Give it a shot with some small programs, and you'll pick it up pretty easily. I would suggest against starting with graphical programs, as awt.swing is stupid-annoying.

If you're planning on using programming as a job, I would strongly suggest learning C, C++, or Java as soon as possible. There are some other languages out there (PHP/.NET/C#), but I think the three I first referenced will do you better. I learned Java first and once you get it you can easily pick up a lot of other languages.

My teacher said that we learn VB now because it sets the foundation for more advance programming. To be honest when I selected the course I had no idea it was going to be about programming. They should call it Computer Programming not Computer Science. I hated at first but now its not so bad, it gets good when they let your imagination run wild when making a program.

Well, at the beginning it starts off as Programming, but it quickly becomes a science with algorithmic design and theoretical grammars and what have you. I take it you're not so interested in it?

Either way, even though you work in VB now because of class doesn't mean you can't tinker with some other languages on the side if you feel like it.

I might try C++ and Java sometime to see what it's like, but I don't see myself making a career out of this. Unless I turn out to be really amazing at more advanced stuff. You can design using algorithms?

Well, it's more of the design of algorithms. There are a ton of things in computer science beyond programming (and you don't necessarily need to be a programmer if you get a CS degree). If you like the more theoretical maths at all, keep at it.

So, I went to get a drink from the fridge, you know, I'm thirsty. Simple enough, right?

Nope. Stood up too fast, got that annoying head rush...but no, it wasn't your average everyday head rush, I actually blacked out for just a second and face-planted(thankfully just hit the carpeted floor). Then my cat walks over and has the audacity to paw at my face as if I'm some kind of toy laid out on the floor for her enjoyment.

Actually hurt my nose a little bit. Only would something so ridiculous happen to me. I am such a klutz.

Programming sounds way more fun then that other stuff. On average I am writing like 100-110 lines of code a program. That seems like nothing compared to advanced programming.

I know that in the version control repository of the software that I work on for a living, it consists of 1m LOC, split between Java, XSLT, Perl, etc. So yes, complicated programs can get... well... complicated. You have to keep a lot of things in your head sometimes.

Haha nice. I've done that many times before - standing up too fast, getting a head rush - but never have I actually passed out. I thought that was weird.

OK, I'm lost. My only experience with computer programming was something called BASIC interpretter I learned as part of a 9 week cycle class in 7th or 8th grade. Well, I did use SAS statistical software in my Biostats class 1st year of grad school, but I could never get the hang of it. You might say it was quite SASsy with me

Anyways, 2 of my roommates my junior year in college were computer science majors. They were both actually seniors though we started the same year and I leafed through one of their senior projects. It was like 250 pages of coding.
