I truly enjoyed The Last Hope more than I did FFXIII (the PS3 version was released about a month before FF, and was my only experience with the game). It just has a more conventional RPG feel to it that I thought FF was lacking through a good portion of the game. And of course, Star Ocean's series staple active time battles always keep you on your toes.

Try not to let the voices get to you too much (though you can go with the Japanese voices in the PS3 version if that suits you better) and it's a great game. It's also an extreme time-consumer if you harbor any thoughts of getting its trophies.

I don't know when I'll get around to playing it since I have so many unplayed games already, but more than likely I'll enjoy it more than FF13 as well. I absolutely hated FF13's battle system and had zero interest in finishing the game. I've never seen an RPG be so on-the-rails linear as that one was. It doesn't open up at all until about 80% through the game

I know what you mean, FFXIII was disappointing to say the least. The Battle System wasn't bad, but I honestly prefer the more Traditional style, like in FFX. Totally agree on how ridiculously linear the game is, feels like everything you do is 100% scripted. That completely kills the replay value, since there would be absolutely no variation the second playthrough at all. Overall just a really disappointing game for me.
