We had a couple different drills at the furniture store I used to work at: 18v DeWalt, 12v DeWalt, 12/18v Black & Decker, and another set I can't remember.

The 12v DeWalt would outperform the 18v B&D. I hated those B&D drills.

I've always been a Dewalt fan, but over the years I've noticed one single issue with their drills which caused me to sway from them. Their clutch system always seems to go out and faster than you would expect.

So that forced me to talk to some contractors and surprisingly enough, dewalt did not come up often. Makita and Porter Cable came up pretty often so I decided to give Porter Cable a shot.

Went with the 20v


Its been roughly a year and I've been pretty impressed. Holds a charge extremely long, has a ton of power, has some nice little creature features like magnet bit holders on top, quick hands free clip, and so far the clutch system has been flawless.

I still support dewalt, just not their drills

Ive used Porter Cable drills for years. IMO the best you can get for the money.

Yup. I was working at Black & Decker when they acquired Porter Cable. At the time, DeWALT and B&D power tool engineers worked at the same location, just in different areas.

Since then they've merged with Stanley. Not sure how it's setup now. I think the Power Tools division is mostly the same, though.
