Have you read any of his son's work? Joe Hill's "Heart Shaped Box" is the best horror novel you've (probably) never heard of haha.
I'm only a couple hundred pages in, but it has been excellent so far.

And no, I've never read any of his stuff. I'll have to check it out.

The ending gets a little ridiculous, as King's tend to do, but it's such a good ride with some amazingly well done characters and growth.

And check out Heart Shaped Box. "Horns" isn't as good, but HSB is the only book I've had to stop reading because it was 1am and I was actually scared.

Sounds good, it'll be next on my list.

For the first time ever I've actually finished an entire series of books. Don't hate, it was "Mockingjay" which is the last of the Hunger Games.

          Spoiler

Any recommendations for something that is available in the Kindle Lender's Library? I'd like to use my free rental, but if not "The Stand" is next on my list. I wouldn't mind a Tom Clancy novel either.

I'm reading F1 Technical analysis 2011/2012 season. Great info for anybody who is interested in the technical side of F1.

I'm just reading this book now and it's great.

I would say the favourite fiction/fantasy book I've read is The Name of the Wind. It's a trilogy and the third one probably won't be out until 2015 (Pat Rothfuss took 4 years to write the second one in 2011) but I absolutely loved it.

Other books I would recommend:The Lions of Al-Rassan. It's a one-off book that I would compare to a poor man's Middle Eastern Game of Thrones.
For baseball I loved Moneyball (much more than what was in the movie) and the Summer of '49.

Rented "Cyberstorm" from the Amazon library. It's free so I figured I would try it before Stephen King's "The Stand".

I've read Horns and NOS4A2. I've been looking for a book to read for the Halloween month, so I might look up HSB. Just got to finish Inferno first.

HSB blows Horns out of the water for me. Still haven't read NOS4A2.

Reading Doctor Sleep right now. Vintage King right here. Good stuff.

What's a good place to start for King? I have The Shining, but haven't brought myself to read it yet.

Ive read a few of his more popular books, Langoleres, Cujo, etc. 2 Books of the dark tower series and 11/22/63. Id def recommend the latter as its just really cool and an easy read. Dark Tower is unlike most of his books. Dude has so many books, if you just want to "read king" id say pick one at random and see how you like it.

Cant go wrong with 11/22/63 though, thats my recommendation to you.

Yeah, saying where to start with King is hard. Depends which side you're looking for:

Horror? The Shining and IT are the top two for fear factor. Then you also have the well-known but not quite scary "horror" books of his with Cujo, Carrie, Pet Semetary, etc.

"Easy-read"? The Long Walk (written by Bachman, Kings alter-ego). Short, basic, but such an awesome story. The Gunslinger (first book of the Dark Tower series) is an easy read, but obviously as you delve into the rest of the series it becomes much grander and you pay more attentions.

Other? The Stand is an epic but well-worth the investment in the 1400+ page unabridged version. Salem's Lot is an actually well-written vampire novel. The Green Mile is an awesome book. Misery (which I guess could/should've went in the horror section as it is frightening) is a must read. Cell is his take on zombies and is hit or miss with readers.

My list of what to read overall:

                              The Shining
                              IT
                              The Stand
The Gunslinger (and if you get hooked the rest of the Dark Tower series. Well worth it.)
                              The Green Mile
                              The Long Walk
                              The Dark Half
                              Insomnia
Under the Dome (do not take the **** TV show as a representation of how incredible the novel is)
Desperation and then The Regulators (in that order, they're sister novels written by King and then by Bachman)
