I've started GoT roughly 4 times and have finished it completely once due to one reason or another. I've read the first 1/3 of the second book and GoT is a definite world/character builder. There's a lot to wade through, but there's enough intrigue in the beginning and action from the middle on to plow through it.

I'd sell you my Kindle, but you could probably find the Paperwhite 2 for a pretty good deal now.Comment

I'm reading George Carlin's Last Words at the moment.
My girlfriend got me a Kindle about a year ago although I prefer actual books as well. I hear about me not using it enough all the damn time.Comment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
I prefer actual books to e-books. I feel like I comprehend the text better when I have the tangible book in my hands.
In my Responsible Self class (see spoiler), we read only e-books and it was a huge pain when we'd go to write in class essays because we had to recall specific instances from the text without having the actual text to use. As a result, many hours were wasted memorizing lines.
SpoilerIn that class, we had to read St. Augustine's Confessions, On Liberty by J.S. Mill, the Joys of Motherhood by Buchi Emecheta, Consilience by E.O. Wilson and the Bhagavad Gita (none of which I recommend to anybody because they're all very dry reads and don't make any sense based on surface value.) In order to understand each world view and what the "Responsible Self" is in terms of each of those views.Last edited by royals19; 12-18-2014, 05:36 PM.
I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

How do the e-books handle reference materials in books like say the map in Game of Thrones? I like flipping back to look at that while reading.

Reading Gone Girl right now, almost done. Really good, getting ready to see the movie eventually. Love to read books when a movie adaptation comes around

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
I read the first book (Divergent), it wasn't... terrible.
Started off really strong actually.
Ended kinda... similar to the 2nd and 3rd books of the Hunger games series.
If not familiar... It just takes on more political tones than the whole Teens struggling to survive or fighting against each other mantra.
Havent had a real inclination to read the next book in the series.Charger Fan Born and Raised!

Just finished The Martian. The movie for it comes out in October. It's a good book and I recommend it. The author does a good job and getting the science right, or so it seems. Hopefully the movie does it justice.MLB: Texas Rangers

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Just finished The Fold by Peter Clines.
Sci-fi/Thriller about a man that investigates a Transporter that can move people through something called The Albequrque Door.
But something is off and nobody on the team is open to discussing it.
The main character also has the gift of Hyperthymesia (the ability to remember every single detail from every living memory they have) which plays heavily into the story. (and pretty cool as well).
It's sci-fi with a touch of Stephen King - especially in the end.
I read mostly sports biographies, but this one was a beauty.
Finished reading The Game: Inside the Secret World of Major League Baseball's Power Brokers some time ago as well.
If you like baseball and/or sports, this is a great read.Last edited by Money99; 11-02-2015, 02:43 PM.Comment
