Vancouver's New Speed Bumps: Little Children

The illusion is part of a $15,000 safety program that will run this week, led by the BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation and the public awareness group Preventable.ca. As drivers approach, the police will monitor the fake girl’s effects. Despite fears that drivers may stop suddenly or swerve into actual 3D children, David Duane of the BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation told CTV news that the bump was meant to bring attention to driver-caused pedestrian injuries, and that the fake girl should not cause accidents.
Hmm. I don't think this is to great of an idea. Because really once someone drives through the "speed bump" once they will know what it is and drive through it the next time without slowing down.

    Re: New Speed Bumps

After I went through it once, I'd speed up every time to freak out the people behind me (if they see it too).

Or, screech to a stop then flip off the little girl and start screaming.

I would swerve or slam on the brakes when I saw this the first time, that would be dangerous! I don't trust idiot drivers out there to handle this lol

I see nothing but trouble coming out of this. It will end after the first lawsuit is filed by someone who swerves and hits another car or a wall.

Someone is going to hit someone trying to swerve out the way and this will end quick. Kinda creepy looking, Some guy leaving work late at night will probably have nightmares about the phantom kid running around the parking garage.

What a waste of $15,000......this idea on first read through doesn't sound that ********, but once you think about it for a few you must ask why Vancouver lets ******s have input in street safety.

                "swerve into actual 3D children"

What other kind of "actual" children are there?

                  LOL...

I say hit her and then stick your head out the window and yell, "*****!"

But seriously, how long until people get familiar and just ignore it? It's a painting so it's quite permanent and will become expected. Or, how long until someone sees a REAL child chasing a ball and says, "It's one of those silly speed bumps...floor it."

Exactly. It's almost like "the little boy who cried wolf" scenario. Some people would just get used to the illusions and next thing you know they think a real kid is just an illusion or something.

On a side note did any of you watch The OCD Project on VH1? This would have been perfect for that Arine chick.

Yea but how many people are gonna floor it knowing that it's a speed bump. People will still slow down and a speed bump isn't one of those things you just don't see coming so even if it's a kid and you're slowing down, it'll move (and have been moving) and you'll probably be going slow enough to stop.

Terrible idea. This creates more of a safety hazard than anything, I can see a big lawsuit after somebody swerves and hits something.
