Well according to this website, it has been a problem for the Galant line since 1994. Your Galant line starts around the middle of that long list.

well there have been no recalls due to faulty airbags with them. Also, it seems the '05 Galant uses an "intelligent airbag system", but I believe that is only describing the "variable force deployment".

I would try contacting a mechanic, especially if you know one personally, and ask them about the airbag system and how it works. It could very well be, though I'd be shocked, that the area of impact on your vehicle doesn't trigger the airbag.

Airbags aren't triggered by all accidents due to how the airbags themselves can cause bodily injury to occupants in the vehicle.

Where was the impact to your vehicle. Typically the airbags deploy when their is direct impact to the front center of your vehicle. If she hit you from the side or the origination of the impact was near a corner, there is a good chance that your airbags would/should not have deployed. Typically air bags will deploy on a rear endeer or if there is a t-bone where one car strikes another coming across directly in front of it.

In this case, if she blew the light, you would have had to have struck her directly in front of you (not on your corner) for the sensor to trigger.

With the airbags not deploying, I'm not sure if it would be worth much for a lawyer to take the case. It would take a long time for a lawyer to get anything unless there already is a history for that car. Since no one was hurt and the other person has insurance, they should take care of you with no/little out of pocket cost other than buying a new car.

Do some research and maybe talk to a lawyer for free to see what they think, but I wouldn't pay anything. Car companies probably have something in thing in the book about airbags don't have to deploy and shouldn't be counted on to deploy.

Glad no one was seriously hurt.

It looks like this was a known problem so I don't know if getting a lawyer involved would be worth it on that issue.

if the impact was a glancing blow to the front right corner of the car as the pictures seem to indicate then the airbags should not have deployed unless it has side curtain air bags. the impact needs to be primarily straight on for them to go off as the occupants need to be moving toward them for them to be effective. if they had gone off from a corner impact there likely would have been more airbag related injuries

                      glad everyone is ok
