I own a boxer mixed with a border collie, he weighs about 70 pounds. Over all boxers are highly energetic, loves to play and pounce on you. They literally use their front paws like hands. They love to run a lot too, so make sure you either have a big yard or a big house.

They are very social dogs too that crave human interaction. If they don't see a human they will get sad, whine or bark. They can be aggressive when playing, however I weigh 230 so my dog just bounces off me like he ran into a brick wall.

But like any breed, how you train them is the way they will be. Hmmmm what else........When they have nothing to do they like to lay down a lot, especially during the day time. They seem to be more active in the evening time. Oh yeah they can jump VERY HIGH, like jump in the face of somebody that is 6'5 off vertical, at least the boxers can.

So make sure your fence in your yard is at least 8ft tall. But over all they are just overly playful and energetic.

Oh yeah, I've owned boxers my whole life. Just lost my boxer last summer, and fully plan on getting another. I have an attachment to the "smushy face" breeds.

I had a bulldog and would not recommend one to anyone other then maybe an older couple.
The do nothing but eat, sleep, slobber and poop.
Mine was the laziest living thing that ever lived!

I really cant go into detail but my buddy owns one and says he will never buy another breed. I personally am a lab kinda guy, but his bulldog is pretty cool.

My brother has a 9 month 85 pound American Bulldog; He thinks he is a small dog and just loves to lay down on you like he is a 10pound chichwawa (sp.). Needs a ton of exercise and would eat anything, loves human interaction/attention all the time, distrusts other dogs until they sniff and play. PATIENCE and a strong/kind/smart dog owner is a must.

People need to keep in mind not all bulldogs are the same, there are about a dozen different breeds of bulldogs. And each breed is different. Some are lazier and some are more energetic, all depends on the breed.

My girlfriend and I have a near 80 pound American Bulldog mix (I think with boxer maybe) and he's exactly the same way. I've never had a big dog who's favorite spot is sitting in my lap. He's the most affectionate dog I've ever known BUT he's stubborn as can be at times.

You're also right about needing a patient strong owner. It's important to understand dog behavior just on the account that they're such strong dogs. They need a firm but gentle hand.
