Re: Close call with a bear (nice ending)
Ehh he was fine. Bear was just curious. Black Bears are more docile than Brown Bears. If it was a brown bear, then I'd be worried.
Most black bears, if you yell "Get outta here Bear" in a low but loud voice, would run away like this bear did. However, don't try that with a momma bear.
Cool video though, I wonder if the guy was hunting?Comment

I had no idea what was going to happen. I thought the bear was going to climb to the top of the ladder and then take off his costume haha. Thought it was going to be a practical joke on us.Comment

Yeah, the girl I am dating now, she was a good friend before we started dating.Ehh he was fine. Bear was just curious. Black Bears are more docile than Brown Bears. If it was a brown bear, then I'd be worried.

Well we didn't know it but literally live like a mile apart in the same "woodsy" town.
She came over my house for the first time, called me, then said she wasn't getting out of her car.
I go outside and there is this big mama black bear sitting 10 feet from me. I said hi to it and it just looked at me then looked across my road. She was waiting for her hubby (this massive had to be minimum 500 lb) male. As soon as he went up to her, she wandered off into the woods. Probably to go to her two cubs I saw her with getting into my trash a couple weeks earlier.
I thought it was cool that she waited for the bigger male. I was wondering why she was waiting there, and not too concerned. I assumed for the cubs, but she had no stress in her, so it was neat to see the male come over.
So my GF called me crazy, but I had no fear cause living around them you can get a sense of how docile they are. Now I am not going to give it a hug, but I am not gonna run from it when they have been coming around for years and presented no threat to me.
SpoilerTo add, I am glad he did not shoot it. I am not against hunting in the slightest (I do have my hunting permit). Just certain forms of hunting. Bear I see no need to hunt. Hunting for food first, and getting an nice trophy in the process (like you would with a prized trout or bass) is one thing. But to me, hunting just for the trophy aspect, like people do Lions, etc in Africa is just unnecessary. Bear taste like crap, and the meat is tough, so that is definitely not on the "yummy must hunt and eat" list like say turkey, elk, or deer. Anyhow.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 11-10-2010, 07:22 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I like how the bear looks at the ladder, then looks at its paw like it was pondering whether or not to try to climb it.Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Comment

Re: Close call with a bear (nice ending)
Bears are extremely intelligent creatures, and have displayed forms of problem solving. Especially when you try and hide trash or prevent them from getting in.
The things will practically pick locks, etc, no lie. Only good deterrent is rags dipped in ammonia around the trash cans.
Ever see them ride unicycles in the circus?

Re: Close call with a bear (nice ending)
I'm not surprised by it at all. Matter of fact, just last week in my psychology class we were learning how animals capacity to learn isn't much different then ours. Saw a video of a chimp that stole some copper wire, hid it so that none of the caretakers for it would find it, waited till it was sure everyone was gone, then finally picked the lock to where it was, closed the door behind it and left haha. Animals never cease to amaze me.Bears are extremely intelligent creatures, and have displayed forms of problem solving. Especially when you try and hide trash or prevent them from getting in.
