    Six Flags New Orleans...

A little overdramatic (in fact, just mute it), but it hits home hard for me.

I think it was 2 weeks before Katrina hit I was there. Of course, that's when the storm was a non-threat. And then, after it hit, we went to Pensacola and Pass Christian to see evacuated family, and when we passed it coming home is when I knew we were close to home...

Yeah I know what you mean, I look everytime I pass by and hate seeing it like that. That storm hurt a lot of us here on the gulf.

Was this what "Jazzland" used to be? I went there when it first opened, it must have been the early 2000s or so. I remember there was a wooden roller coaster there called The Zephyr or something like that, and the park overall was pretty small. Reminds me of this one.

Yea, if memory serves you're right.

And the park was small, but they were currently expanding it when the storm hit

Honestly, after watching that, I can't believe they just abandoned it. There's obviously a lot of broken windows, graffiti, and water damage, but the rides (which I would imagine would be the expensive part) don't look to be in all that bad of shape. Could use a new coat of paint, I suppose. And you can't really see from that video how the inner workings of them were affected, I guess.

Everything's a mess, with computer monitors and other stuff that appears to have been scattered everywhere by the storm, and the buildings might be in rough shape, but there looks to be enough there to reopen some sort of park. Even if you have to tear down a bunch of buildings and make it a sort of bare bones amusement park.

They're obviously going to get a lot for the scrap, and nothing speaks louder than money, but I would think symbolically reopening that park, even if it was a shadow of what it was, would be a good thing for that city.

That's just it, though. It's not worth the risk not knowing what kind of internal damage all of it might have taken. Even the rides' foundation has probably wrecked its stability.

That doesn't mean that they can't rebuild this stuff, but I don't think there is any chance that they would simply just try and repair it, well knowing what could happen should anything go wrong.

Oh, and the only other thing that I remember when I was at Jazzland (which I guess was this same park) is there was that bluish roller coaster ride seen in the video that kind of does the same thing forward and backward (at Great America and Magic Mountain they have this same kind of ride only inverted, called "Invertigo" and "Deja Vu," respectively). I believe here it was called "Scream" or "Boomerang" or something like that. Anyway, as my sister and I got off the ride, I remember this little girl crying in front of us walking alongside her mother. She said "I didn't like that ride, it punched me in the stomach." Her mom then said, "Then you shouldn't have gone on, sweetie," and she instantly yelled back, "I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS GOING TO PUNCH ME IN THE STOMACH!"

We still laugh about that line today.

Zydeco Scream was the name of SFNO's boomerang. Invertigo and Deja Vu are pretty much the same, but Deja Vu is about 60 feet taller, and the two spikes at the end are vertical.

I'm into amusement parks/roller coasters, so I've followed this situation since it's happened. It's a real shame, really, but I think the park is done for good. Their version of Batman: The Ride has been relocated, Mega Zeph's structure is probably ruined, and all the flat rides were submerged in water. There's been a ton of failed attempts to buy the park and re-open it...I just don't see it happening. Hopefully some other park purchases Mega Zeph and tries to restore it, though.

Wow, now that I watched it, I noticed that Jester's paint is chipping off to the point where you can see the pink color it was when it was Joker's Revenge at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

JJ, since you know a lot about it, which one was the one that flips you upside down? It has like 2 rows of shoulder harnesses that don't like to buckle.

I thought I was going to lose my life when we were upside down and I heard my harness click.
