    tip jars

kind of getting out of hand. Does every place need a tip jar just for them doing their normal job?

I'm supposed to tip someone for pouring me a coffee at Dunkin Donuts? Isn't that their normal job? lol

I hate when I buy something with my debit card and I have to sign and on the paper I sign there is a spot for a tip. At a resteraunt with service this is fine, but not at Subway or Taco Bell.

      Re: tip jars

It's optional. I sometimes feel bad, but like you stated, they are getting paid for their services already.

I only tip if the service exceeds my demands, or there is a really hot girl behind the counter.

its optional and i get that. I just dont get why it's there though when we are talking about basic services. I mean, i pay for a coffee from somewhere and i'm greeted with a "tips are appreciated" box right there? For coffee? You poured it into a cup and gave it to me. Thats yer job, lol.

How often have you seen a hot girl that worked at a fast food place ? Not often.....

All hot girls work at Hot Topic or Ambrecrombie or Old Navy or a cell phone kisok. I can count all the hot girls I have seen at a fast food place on one hand.

Sit down places......that is a different story. I seen many a hot girl working at Applebees.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I dont mind the Tip Jar as I do not hold onto Pennies. If there is no Tip Jar, I will just tell the Cashier to keep the pennies. Speaking of Tips, I work for a Major Appliance retailer and I get tips all the time. I am very well compensated for the work I do so when I got my first tip for carrying a fridge into a house, I was shocked.

Hell just the other day I delivered a appliance with no Install and I got $30, just for carrying into this guys garage...

When I was a much younger chef, I used to manage a hoffbrau at night. The carvers and cashier had a tip jar. Well when I started there I watched and noticed that the "tippers" always got hooked up with larger sandwiches/salads, etc...than those that didn't.

It drove me nuts. Why can't we treat all of our customers as tippers and hook them all up with better food/sevings? Rhetorical.

I got rid of the tip jar. And even a few that violated my rule.

That is why some places don't allow tip jars or tips period. Because in the end, it always end up with people getting better treatment then others.

my job has a tip jar and i hate it. my job consist of me fixing machines for people to play like casinos and video game while another person cashes out the people money vouchers.

It pisses me off that all the person does all day is stand up and pay out people and on a good night he will go home with around 500 dollars in tips and on a bad night maybe 200.

While im the one doing all the work and I get nothing, but i dont think i should be getting a tip anyway for doing my job.

The reason for there being a line on there is because it would probably cost too much to have it removed, plus they figure they might get a tip every once in a while.

Unless I am getting service that I shouldn't be as it is above what I paid for, I won't tip.

I'm talking about coffee shops.. Especially local ones. Even Starbucks has a few cute ones.

If you're tipping people at fast food restaurants such as McD's, you're getting ripped off.

Exactly. But if the person behind the counter gives me a dirty look for not putting something in the jar, I will not be coming back to the business.

My rule is generally if there seems to be a good amount of personalized effort in preparing what I ordered, I'll leave a tip. If you're just grabbing things that are prepared ahead of time or it's an assembly line-type thing, I won't.

I also tip if it's super-busy at lunch time and the service is still courteous and fast.
