If she was fired for breaking the rule, sure the district would get laughed at and have unwanted attention but that's not going to help Mrs. Kitty (or w/e her name is) get her job back or be in position for a better job. The EMTs still could have overridden their asinine rule and driven the ambulance on to the field. If they were dispatched to the call, or were staged at the event, then they are in charge if a medical emergency happens to occur.

Lawyers also consider liability and what would result in a bigger loss. Possible wrongful death suit vs. tire damage to new sports field. Kind of an easy call......

Do we know the whole story? Or is this a sensational spin cause the field happens to be "new"?

Could it be because the way the field is set up with drainage, this person did not want the 4-7 ton vehicle sinking and snapping an axle causing a whole new problem?

Which I have seen a ton of times with even lesser weight vehicles.

We had a soccer player break his leg during a game. The ambulance went right onto the field with the schools AD leading the way. The field turf has only been there since last fall. I know different districts have different rules, that seems like one that could lead to trouble. Kid suffers from Cardiac Arrest or something where every second counts.

From the article - "Del Mar's principal, Liz Seabury, says she was following district orders, banning motorized vehicles on the school's recently remodeled field."

If the field is real grass and you can't take a motorized vehicle on it does that mean they push mow it?

If the field isn't real grass then the ambulance shouldn't hurt the surface one bit. I know plenty of stadiums that have the drain systems under them and it doesn't hurt a vehicle to ride across them at all.

But for real though, total douche move. So what if the turf cost upwards of 1 million dollars, you're saying that's (potentially) worth more than a kid's life?

They really need to review this rule...In this case it's not a huge deal, but there will be other situation where the time is critical. Concussions aren't that bad (they don't rush ambulances onto pro fields and they get the best care possible), but imagine if it was something with the spine or neck. Then you'd need to be on the field no matter what...

Still the ambulance should have been let on...they did that at a HS playoff soccer game when my friend got kicked in the head and knocked out. Better to be safe than sorry. Grass can be fixed, injured people aren't quite as easy to fix.
