How to treat a burn
So I was frying some pork chops an I dropped it in from to high. All of a sudden a massive wave of grease came up an I tried to move but it caught the whole top part of my hand. So I looked an I'm almost positive its a 2nd degree burn. What are some ways to treat it? Besides going to the hospital.Tags: None -
Re: How to treat a burn
1
Soak the burn. Immediately after the skin has been burned, it is important to soak the burn in cool water for at least 15 minutes. Keep clean, cool wash cloths on the burn throughout the day.
2
Put on an antibiotic cream. Creams or ointments will help to treat the burn and control the pain. Apply the cream as soon as the burn has finished soaking in cold water.
3
Cover the burn. In order to treat a second degree burn, cover it with a dry, nonstick cloth such as gauze. Secure the gauze with tape, and replace the dressing with a clean one every day.
4
Wash the burn every day. It is important to keep a second degree burn clean as it heals to aid with treatment. Wash the burn and reapply antibiotic cream every day.
5
Look for infection. To treat a second degree burn, you must make sure that the area does not become infected. Look for signs such increased pain, redness, swelling or pus. Also avoid breaking an blisters to avoid infection.
6
Take a pain reliever. Second degree burns are painful, and taking a pain reliever will help treat the symptoms of a second degree burn.
7
Get medical help. If the burn covers a large area, treat the burn using the steps above. Seek medical help to treat the burn.

Re: How to treat a burn
Moses...I see you took that from ehow and are trying to be helpful, but let me step in for a second.....as a person who has suffered 1st-2nd and even some 3rd degree burns.
Don't soak it.(If it was a hot water or steam scald...yes...for 10 minutes or so as long as the skin wasn't too damaged)
As long as whatever was burning you is removed and no longer a factor....it's really quite simple.
No butter...no ointments(of ANY kind)...no wet bandages...
Simple dry dressing is the best for covering it.
Don't pick at the blisters(DO NOT POP THEM!)
Change the dressing every day or if the blisters start to ooze....whenever necessary.
If you think you've got something more than a mid 1-2 burn...or if you have something worse than a 2nd degree...get professional medical attention.
Also....unless you get the area dirty somehow....no need to wash it. It's actually better to keep it dry until it heals.
There is a process called "scrubbing"(OH MY GOD ...THIS IS AGONIZING
)..but you don't have to worry about that...it's reserved for more serious burns to try and get the tissue to grow back....they slough off the damaged dermis. Not pretty and I'll admit....I cried like a baby for my mommy.
I'd recommend seeing a doctor if you have any doubt...as grease burns can get deep(they stick).
Good luck.

Re: How to treat a burn
Thanks guys for the help. I got 3 blisters on my hand. One of them with a tiny bit of pus but nothing crazy. From what i read its nothing but a 2nd degree burn.
Knight you said not to put anything on it. Not even A&D ointment? I haven't put anything on it yet. Will this leave a scar? Its a pretty big area on my hand that was burned.Comment

I haven't had red meat in 4 years, but when I did, Porkchops were always grilled. Actually, my dad made everything using a grill. Even french fries, and they were crispy. Still don't know how he did that.HoosiersPacersPhilliesRavens

Re: How to treat a burn
Haha...love where this went.
Well....if you didn't get the blisters with pustules I would say yes you could start ointment after the first day(you just didn't want to do it the first day....I should have been more clear on that...I was really speaking of the first day treatment yesterday in regards to ointments)....but now I would see a doctor.
The biggest worry is infection.
With pus entering the scene.....I would say take a quick trip to the doctor and he can prescribe you silvadene, which is a burn cream.
For scarring....it's that and La Mer....a pretty expensive skin cream that woman use.
When I got burned on my ears/neck and head....I was using the silvadene and getting scrubbed, but the doctor said I would probably have some pretty decent scarring.
Someone recommended La Mer and I figured WTF?....why not?...
I don't know if it was me...me and the silvadene...me/silvadene/scrubbing...or all four, but I have literally no scarring.
If you're a hand model and are worried about the scarring...give it a shot!

Re: How to treat a burn
lmao sorry not a hand model. I'm not to worried about the scarring was just wondering if it were going to happen. I'll probably stop at the doctors sometime Tuesday. Ima take a pic of it later an post it. I had 3 blisters now I only have two as two of them merged together while I was sleeping. I have no pus coming out of the little one anymore, even when it did it was a very small amount.Comment
